PREP HOOPS: Chimacum boys win first game of the year

Chimacum boys win first game of year

CHIMACUM — The Chimacum basketball team won its first game of the year, using tough defense to keep Summit Olympus in check in a 47-37 victory.

The Cowboys were led by Tanner Carstensen, who scored 16 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. Joe Savill scored 13, while Hunter Cerna and Cody Clark each scored eight points. Clark added 11 rebounds, while Cade Martin had nine rebounds.

“They have a very young team even less experienced than our very young team,” said Cowboys coach Mark Bennett. “Our guys are starting to play better together and play better defense.

“We are going to continue to work on stopping the ball on defense” Bennett said. That and executing on offense to create better scoring opportunities.

Chimacum (0-2, 1-10) jumps back into league play this week with games against Olympic League 1A Division rivals Port Townsend (1-1, 2-8) at Port Townsend at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and at Klahowya (2-0, 6-6) on Friday.
