PREP GOLF: Shea and McMenamin lead Sequim boys and girls to victories over Kingston

SEQUIM — Jack Shea earned medalist honors with a 1-over-par 73 to lead the Sequim boys golf team to a 330-367 season-opening win against Kingston at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.

Travis Priest fired an 81 for the Wolves in Wednesday’s match, tying with the Buccaneer’s Caleb Start for the second-best individual finish.

Jade Arnold shot an 85 for Sequim and Alex McCracken tallied a 91.

The Wolves play Port Angeles at Peninsula Golf Club on Wednesday.

Port Angeles wins jamboree

SEQUIM — Depth helped push the Port Angeles boys golf team to a victory in an Olympic League jamboree.

Sequim’s Jack Shea was match medalist with a 35, but the Roughriders totaled 159 strokes, 19 better than the host Wolves (178) on Tuesday at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.

Port Townsend was third at 181 strokes, with Olympic fourth at 194.

Port Angeles was led by Alex Atwell and Austin Peterson, who each fired 39. Alex Brown was a shot back with 40 and Mason Jackson carded a 41.

Travis Priest was second overall for Sequim with a 36.

The Redhawks were led by Zack Glover’s 42, while Patrick Morton tallied a 43.

The Roughriders open the season today against North Kitsap at White Horse Golf Club.

Port Townsend visits Klahowya today at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton.

Girls Golf

Sequim 96, Kingston 68

SEQUIM — Alex McMenamin opened her sophomore season with match medalist honors after firing a 41, good for 32 Stableford points in Sequim’s season opener with Kingston.

Kindra Smith notched a 47, good for 26 points, to lead the Buccaneers Wednesday at Cedars at Dungeness.

Kelly Anders posted a 50 and Brianna Kettel added a 52 for the Wolves.

Sequim visits Port Angeles for a match at Peninsula Golf Club on Wednesday.

Sequim wins jamboree

SEQUIM — Sequim claimed the three-team Olympic League girls jamboree Tuesday at Cedars at Dungeness.

The Wolves totaled 90 points, Olympic was second with 78 and Port Angeles was third with 31 points.

Alex McMenamin led all golfers with a round of 38 for Sequim.

Brianna Kettel was second for the Wolves after posting a 50.

Maddie Boe and Olivia Due led Port Angeles with each posting rounds of 64.
