PREP GOLF: Sequim boys remain undefeated after win over North Kitsap

PORT LUDLOW — Dominic Riccobene notched Sequim’s first round below par on the young season, shooting a 1-under-par 35 as the Wolves bested North Kitsap 166-202 in soggy and windy conditions at Port Ludlow Golf Club.

Riccobene earned match medalist honors for the second straight match, sinking three birdies and overcoming two bogeys on the round.

Right behind Riccobene were Ben Sweet at 42, Pryce Glasser at 43 and Cole Smithson at 46.

“Ben hit a huge drive, making it all the way to the greenside bunker on the par-4 second hole,” coach Sean O’Mera said. “Pryce made a miraculous bogey on the par-4 7th after hitting it into the hazard. Cole, using three wood off the tee all day, hit many great shots, including a 215-yard laser off a tight lie to about 10 feet away on the par-5 fourth hole. Cole also made a great birdie on the par-5 8th hole.”

Sequim (3-0) hosts North Mason on Thursday at The Cedars at Dungeness.

BREMERTON — Boosted by freshman Phoenix Flores’ round of 41, Port Angeles earned a 28-stroke victory over Olympic on the Trojans home course, Rolling Hills Golf Course.

Edun Bailey added a 44 for the Riders, while Reid Schmidt and Austin Worthington each posted 50.

Olympic’s Jacob Gesell was the match medalist with a 40.

“I’m really proud of these gentlemen,” coach Bob Anderson said. “Playing through these cold and wet conditions, they are smiling and laughing with the other kids. I’m really enjoying watching them on the course; you can see their work paying off. I can only imagine what it will be like when they hit some nice weather.”
