PREP GOLF: Sequim boys and girls teams cap undefeated seasons, earn Olympic League championships

SEQUIM — The Sequim boys golf team capped an undefeated season by beating Klahowya by nearly 100 strokes in its final match of the regular season at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.

The Wolves officially clinched the Olympic League championship by knocking off the Eagles 331-427 in Tuesday’s match.

They were led by medalist Jack Shea, a likely pick to repeat as league MVP.

Shea shot an even-par 72 in windy conditions.

“Jack was medalist in every match this season, which shows incredible consistency,” Sequim coach and Shea’s father Bill Shea said.

“In the 135 holes of league play, he finished the season at a combined 6-under-par.”

Freshman Blake Wiker finished second with a round of 82.

“Blake has earned second medalist honors in most of his season’s matches,” Shea said.

The Wolves’ Jade Arnold was third overall after shooting an 84.

“Jade has shown great improvement in the past month, and [I] expect a state birth for him as well,” Shea said.

Sequim has been invited to compete as a team in the prestigious 35th annual Bill Egbers Memorial Tournament at Skagit Golf & Country Club in Burlington on Friday.

The invite-only tournament features top talent across all classifications, including future college players.

The 116-player event includes morning and afternoon rounds, with a cut to the top-40 golfers made at lunch.

Sequim will host the Olympic League Championship at Cedars on Tuesday.

“Play will determine some immediate state [tournament] spots, as well as some qualifiers to the district tournament held at Gold Mountain Golf Club on May 17,” Shea said.
