Port Angeles beats Redhawks, Trojans

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders maintained their undefeated status by defeating Olympic and previously unbeaten Port Townsend in a three-way Olympic League match at Peninsula Golf Club.

Port Angeles finished with a team score of 171, while Port Townsend shot 181 and Olympic finished at 184.

“Steady play won the day for us,” Riders coach Mark Mitrovich said.

“We limited our mistakes. We didn’t make many birdies, but we didn’t really make any big mistakes either, which really helped.”

Alex Brown led the Riders and tied Port Townsend’s Zack Glover for Monday’s top nine-hole score of 42.

“Alex is playing really good golf for us right now,” Mitrovich said.

Alex Atwell, Austin Peterson and Mason Jackson each were a stroke back at 43 to round out Port Angeles’ top four scorers.

Austin Khile shot a 44 for the Redhawks, followed by Keegan Khile’s 47 and Patrick Morton’s 48.

Bryce Hoskinson paced Olympic (3-3) with a 43.

Port Angeles’ seniors improved to 28-2 in their four seasons of golf with Monday’s wins.

The Riders (6-0) return to action Thursday against Bremerton at Gold Mountain Golf Club.

Port Townsend (5-1), meanwhile, is at Kingston (1-3) on Thursday at White Horse Golf Course.
