PORT ANGELES — A total of nine golfers from Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend and Chimacum, including three league champions, will begin play this morning at the state 1A and 2A WIAA boys and girls state golf championships.
The Sequim boys in particular are in position to make a lot of noise at state with four golfers, including three high seeds, competing in the 2A boys championship at Liberty Lake Golf Course outside of Spokane.
Sequim’s Blake Wiker and Paul Jacobsen lead the Wolves boys. Wiker is the Olympic League 2A champion, as he bested his teammate Jacobsen in a playoff earlier this month at the Cedars at Dungeness in the league championship.
Wiker and Jacobsen both get an early start today as two of the top 2A golfers in the state. Wiker tees off with the second group at 7:09 a.m., while Jacobsen is with the third group at 7:18 a.m.
The Wolves’ Ben Sweet is also seeded high in the fourth group at 7:36 a.m. They are joined by teammate Liam Payne, who will tee off later in the morning.
Port Angeles’ Cameron Fouts is also at the 2A state meet.
At the 2A girls tournament at Meadowwood Golf Course in Spokane, Sequim’s Britney Gale will compete.
In the 1A boys tournament at Olympia Country and Golf Club, Port Townsend’s Jacob Madison and Chimacum’s Logan Storm, the Olympic League 1A champion, will compete. It is Madison’s third trip to state.
At the girls 1B/2B/1A girls tournament at Tumwater Golf Course, Port Townsend’s Mackenzie Lake, the Olympic League 1A champion, will compete at state for the third time. She is a fairly high seed in the fifth group at 8:06 a.m.
