BREMERTON — The East Jefferson girls split a pair of games this weekend, falling on the road Monday night to a tough Crosspoint team 63-45.
Despite three of their players battling injuries, the Rivals played Crosspoint fairly even for three quarters. Crosspoint outscored East Jefferson 19-9 in the third quarter. Kateyn Riley was out of the game with an injury while both Panina Vailolo and Abbie Liske were injured during the game.
Kay Botkin did all she could to keep the Rivals in the game, hitting five 3-pointers and scoring 19 points. Coach Lorraine Rimson said Botkin took all of her 3-pointers in the flow of the game and didn’t force any of her shots.
Rimson said her team played well against an intense team.
“Crosspoint came at us hard and fast. Our girls came right back,” she said.
Rimson said Teri Wiley played a good game, scoring 15 points, and that a pair of junior varsity players — Gracie Witheridge and McKenzie Rogers — played well filling in for the injured players.
“They gave us solid minutes, they weren’t fazed,” Rimson said.
The Rivals also beat Life Christian 43-30 on Friday in a Nisqually League game. Life Christian had just six players and was down to just four at the end of the game because of foul-outs, Rimson said, but she said East Jefferson played well.
“That was a good game for us to win. We lost twice to them last year,” Rimson said.
The Rivals (4-2, 4-7) get a break for a couple of weeks to recover from their injuries. They play next at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 30 in Chimacum against Washougal.

Crescent 50, Quilcene 12
JOYCE — After an 0-3 start, the Crescent girls basketball team won its sixth straight game, beating Quilcene 50-12 on Monday.
Ciara Cargo-Acosta had a monster game with 20 points, 14 rebounds, including eight offensive boards, five steals and four assists.
Naomii Sprague had eight points and eight steals, while Alexis Dunavant had 10 points.
“The girls are playing amazing,” said coach Brian Shimko. “They’re playing great defense, rebounding, stealing the ball.”
Shimko said one thing the team is not doing well is shooting free throws. The Loggers shot just 6-for-26 from the free-throw line against Quilcene.
“That’s something we need to work on,” Shimko said.
The Loggers (6-3) do not have a game scheduled for the rest of 2023, but Shimko said the team may try to schedule a game in the next two weeks. Crescent’s next scheduled game is Jan. 3 at home against Darrington.
Quilcene (5-3) hosts Mary M. Knight at 5:30 p.m. today.
