QUILCENE — The Quilcene Rangers got 199 yards rushing and took care of business on defense, putting pressure on Darrington’s quarterback all game long in a 48-8 victory Saturday.
The Rangers got up 28-0 at the half and never looked back.
“That was the best game we’ve played this year,” said coach Trey Beathard. “The kids played hard. There weren’t many mental errors. There was a little more intensity and fewer mistakes than normal.”
Mason Iverson had nine carries for 60 yards and two short touchdowns, while Andrew Perez-Lopez ran for 64 yards on seven carries and passed for another 50 yards with two touchdown passes, one a 15-yarder to Taylor Boling and the other a 25-yarder to Robert Evans.
Tyler Beukes ran three times for 42 yards and Evans had a rushing touchdown as Quilcene ran for a total of 199 yards on the ground. Boling make six out of seven extra points.
Tucker Boling led the team with 10 tackles and an interception, while Taylor Boling had eight tackles and a quarterback sack. More importantly, he created a bunch of quarterback hurries, Beathard said.
“He [Boling] put pressure on their quarterback all game long.”
Tyler Wills also caused two fumbles and recovered one of them himself.
Quilcene (6-1, 5-1) next plays at Crescent (2-4, 3-4) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Neah Bay 44, Lummi 0
NEAH BAY — The Neah Bay Red Devils football team won its fifth game in a row with a 44-0 shutout over Lummi, setting up a huge game with Tulalip Heritage for the Northwest 1B title on Friday.
The Red Devils threw just one pass but ran for 228 total yards. Jodell Wimberly ran 10 times for 120 yards and four touchdowns, while Makyah Chambers ran 10 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns.
Seactis Woodruff added 15 yards on five carries.
On defense, Kane McGee-Greene had 11 tackles, including a quarterback sack, and two fumble recoveries. Caleb Cummins had nine tackles and a fumble recovery and Carlos Carrick-Aguirre had nine tackles. LeAnthony Jimmicum had an interception and 30-yard return.
Neah Bay (7-1) next hosts undefeated Tulalip Heritage (7-0), which has been steamrolling through the Northwest 1B League so far.
Charles Wright 48, Crescent 36
TACOMA — The Crescent Loggers football team got in yet another high-scoring back-and-forth affair, this time falling 48-36 to new Northwest 1B League opponent Charles Wright 48-36.
Charles Wright played at the 1A level before this season. The Loggers gave the Tarriers everything they could handle, generating more than 400 yards of offense.
One of the down sides of the game is that the Hood Canal Bridge was closed Friday night due to high winds and the team was forced to come home along U.S. Highway 101 and the Hood Canal, a slow, winding drive, and the team didn’t get home until 3 a.m.
“It was rainy, windy. It was a really good game. It was a fun game except for the bus ride home,” said coach Brian Shimko.
Charles Wright scored 16 points in the fourth quarter to pull away. Shimko said the Loggers had a chance late in the game, getting a first-and-goal, but two big penalties put the Loggers in a first-and-30.
Dom Sprague had a big game with 241 all-purpose yards. He had one touchdown catch for 34 yards and 15 carries for 83 yards. He tacked on 124 yards in kick returns.
Josh Bersom had 10 carries for 101 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown run, and six catches for 49 yards. Henry Bourm had 10 carries for 51 yards and threw for 117 yards and three touchdown passes.
Mikah Love had four catches for 75 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown and a 25-yard touchdown.
In addition, Shimko said the offensive line of Jeremy Charles, Logan Simons and Conner Avrett blocked will to open up some of the Loggers’ big runs.
It was the fourth game this year for the Loggers with more than 80 combined points. They have had two games with more than 100 combined points.
Crescent next hosts a tough Quilcene team at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Raymond-South Bend 42, East Jefferson 12
SOUTH BEND — Playing in windy and wet conditions down in southwestern Washington, the young East Jefferson football team kept Raymond-South Bend in check most of the night in a 42-12 loss.
Luke O’Hara and Tyler Martin each had big games.
O’Hara had three catches for 89 yards and ran three times for 85 yards for 174 total from scrimmage. His runs included a 74-yard scamper, and he also had a fumble recovery and six tackles on defense.
Martin led the team with a whopping 19 tackles and a quarterback sack.
“He was all over the place,” said coach Tony Haddenham.
Alex Garcia also had two catches for 28 yards and ran four times for 38 yards. He scored a touchdown on one of his receptions. Austin Glanz ran twice for 36 yards and Silas Morford ran seven times for 25 yards.
At the quarterback position, Silas Morford was 4-for-13 with a touchdown pass, while Dawson Reid was 3-for-11 for 51 yards and a touchdown. Austin Perovich also recovered a fumble and Adam Weaver a sack.
East Jefferson (0-7) hosts Kingston (1-6) in Port Townsend at 7 p.m. Friday.
Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 34, Forks 6
PE ELL — After Forks’ Landen Olson scored a touchdown to open the game’s scoring, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley scored 34 straight points in a 34-6 win.
It was Pe Ell’s fourth straight win as the Titans have a chance for the Central West League championship.
Coach Trevor Highfield said there were wet conditions in heavy rain and Forks lost three turnovers, which were huge. The Spartans’ Gage Willenbrink also recovered a fumble while Estevan Ramos had an interception. Willenbrink’s recovery helped set up Olson’s two-yard run for a score.
PEWV also had a onside kick that slipped through Forks’ hands in the soggy turf, allowing the Titans to grab the ball for a 35-yard gain.
Forks dropped to 1-2 in league and 2-5 overall. The Spartans next host Raymond-South Bend (0-3, 2-5) at 7 p.m. Friday.
Highfield said the RSB game is big for Forks because the Spartans can still qualify for postseason and a crossover game with a win over the Ravens.
