QUILCENE — The Quilcene Rangers football team got off to a nice start to their 2024 season as Andrew Perez and Robert Evans each had two touchdown runs in swamping the Lummi Blackhawks 38-18 on Saturday in Quilcene.
Perez, playing quarterback, had touchdown runs of 35 and 40 yards, while Evans’ scoring runs went for 50 and 30 yards. Evans finished with 105 yards rushing on just three carries. In all, the team had 230 yards rushing on 17 carries.
Perez also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Wills as the Rangers took a 38-0 lead into halftime and let their reserves play most of the second half.
Perez was a perfect 3-for-3 passing for 65 yards.
“He had a pretty good game for his first-ever game at quarterback,” said coach Trey Beathard.
Beathard said three of his players also had their best games defensively. Tyler Beukes led the team with 14 tackles and two pass breakups, while Isaac Figueroa, just a freshman, had 13 tackles. Mason Iverson added seven tackles and a sack.
Iverson also contributed 30 yards rushing on three carries while Taylor Boling had two catches for 45 yards, while Tucker Boling had a 50-yard touchdown run.
Quilcene (1-0, 1-0) next plays at Concrete (0-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Lions are coming off a 30-18 loss Saturday to Tulalip Heritage.

Neah Bay 78, Wahkiakum 24
NORTH BEACH — The Neah Bay football team had to go up against a completely unfamiliar foe with little preparation after the Red Devils game against Charles Wright was canceled.
It turns out it wasn’t that serious of a problem as the Red Devils rolled 78-24 over Wahkiakum in a game that was quickly scheduled for Saturday after the Charles Wright cancellation. The Mules dropped down from 2B to 1B this season and had never played Neah Bay before, at least not in recent memory. The game was played at a neutral site at North Beach High School in Ocean Shores.
“I think they did well considering we went into the game somewhat blind,” said coach TJ Greene. “We didn’t have much time to prepare for them, but they executed really well.”
Jodell Wimberely added to his already massive career statistics as he began his senior season at Neah Bay, scoring five rushing touchdowns and adding another touchdown on a kick return. Not normally a passer, he also threw for a touchdown to Makyah Chambers. Tyler Swan and Adan Ellis also had rushing touchdowns while Caleb Cummins had two rushing TDs.
Wimberley added an interceptions while Chambers scored three two-point conversions and Swan added a two-point conversion.
Greene said Seactic Woodruff also had a huge game on the offensive and defensive lines.
“He opened up lots of lanes for all of those big runs,” Greene said.
Neah Bay (2-0) technically got two wins in two days as Charles Wright was scored a forfeit in favor of the Red Devils. Neah Bay next plays a huge nonloeague game in Everett at 4 p.m. Saturday against Liberty Christian. Neah Bay has beaten Liberty Christian two years in a row in the state 1B playoffs. Liberty Christian (1-0) beat Garfield-Palouse 64-36 this weekend.
