WOODLAND — Forks ran into a buzzsaw in the form of Class 1A No. 6 La Center and were beaten 66-12 in a Southwest District 4 football playoff.
“Everything that could go wrong went wrong,” Spartans coach Emil West said of Friday’s game.
“It was a horrible night and a tough way to end the year, but it doesn’t diminish what we accomplished this season.”
The Spartans finished with a 4-5 record, a three-game improvement from 2015’s one-win campaign.
“We knew we pretty much had to play a perfect game to beat those guys, a lot of things went wrong, but stuff happens, that’s life,” West said.
“We had a great week of practice and I thought we had a good game plan put together, but we didn’t execute on offense.
“And we needed to keep that [La Center] offense off the field, so we put our defense in a tough situation all night.”
Forks managed just two first downs through the first three quarters of the game.
“They are a big, physical team that can lean on you a little bit,” West said of La Center.
“I think it will be really hard for any team in 1A to match up with them.”
West had praise for his senior class.
“This senior class they started something, they started a winning tradition and we can keep building on this,” West said.
“I appreciate their work ethic and showing up every day and putting that work in to reestablish Forks football.
“Just showing up on a daily basis with an eagerness to work and an eagerness to win. They’ve turned it around. Guys like Jack and Billy Palmer, the work they put in, grinding all those years. They’ve set the tempo.
“Whether it was with words or with action, they set the tempo everyday in practice. I owe them everything, they are the reason why we had such a good year.”

FORKS — The Red Devils displayed no rust after a lengthy layoff, rolling out to a 50-8 halftime lead against the Eagles (1-8) in a Class 1B Quad-District playoff game.
Junior to Junior
Neah Bay’s Rwehabura Munyagi Jr. found Kenrick Doherty Jr. for two first-half touchdown passes and Cameron Buzzell returned a punt 56 yards for another score as the Red Devils powered past Evergreen Lutheran.
Neah Bay (7-1) will face Taholah, likely in Aberdeen, next weekend in another Quad-District playoff contest.
Klahowya 57, Chimacum 0
BREMERTON — The Cowboys couldn’t get going and wrapped their season with a blowout loss to the Eagles.
With the loss, Chimacum (0-6, 1-9) said goodbye to seniors Elijah Avery, Lane Dotson, Westen Johnson, Chris Sevilla and Domenick Zack.
