A serious traffic collision threw a wrench into the travel plans for both the Sequim Wolves and Port Angeles Roughriders.
The collision delayed both teams who were traveling to Kitsap County for road games. A tired Sequim team was able to slug out a hard-fought 7-6 defensive win over Olympic League foe Bremerton to 2-0 in league and 4-1 overall. The margin of victory came from a blocked extra point by Sequim’s Jericho Julmist.
Sequim had just 150 yards of offense but the Wolves held the Knights to 192 yards as the two defenses dominated.
That victory set up an important game in Poulsbo for a special Thursday night game between the Wolves and North Kitsap. The Vikings, usually the big bully of the Olympic League, appears to be a little bit down this year, but they are still 2-1 in league (2-3 overall).
The Wolves have gotten a lot of attention with some of the big offensive numbers being put up by quarterback Zeke Schmadeke and running back Liam Wiker, but in their past three games, their defense has allowed only 20 points.
Thursday’s game begins at 7 p.m.
Crescent 56, LaConner 52
JOYCE — Crescent had arguably the best game of the week with a wild, high-scoring, back-and-forth affair against LaConner. The Loggers pulled it out with a 49-yard touchdown run in the final minute by Henry Bourm, then their defense held on LaConner’s final possession.
Bourm also threw four touchdown passes as Mikah Love caught three TD passes. There were four lead changes in the fourth quarter as LaConner came roaring back in the second half to twice take leads after falling behind 34-12.
Crescent (3-2) has a huge game at 1 p.m. Saturday against Olympic Peninsula rival Neah Bay (4-1), which has won three straight.
North Kitsap 55, Port Angeles 13
POULSBO — With North Kitsap’s stuffing Port Angeles’ usually effective running game, Roughriders’ quarterback Blake Sohlberg was forced to throw the ball 42 times. He completed a pair of touchdown passes to Easton Fisher. Cyrus Deede also had an interception and 70-yard return.
Port Angeles (0-3, 0-5) returns home for another tough game, taking on Bainbridge (3-0, 4-1) at 7 p.m. Friday.
Klahowya 54, East Jefferson 13
PORT TOWNSEND — Rivals freshman Luke O’Hara had a pair of East Jefferson touchdown. He caught a 15-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Silas Morford and he picked up a blocked field goal and ran it in from 20 yards out for another score.
Coach Tony Haddenham was happy with the effort, saying it was East Jefferson’s best game of the year.
East Jefferson was able to run the ball, gaining 168 yards on 32 carries.
The Rivals (0-3, 0-5) travel to Annie Wright (1-4) for a game at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Forks 28, Ilwaco 0
FORKS — Forks finally got to play a Central 2B West League game, taking on previously unbeaten Ilwaco and handling the Fishermen 28-0.
Bubba Hernandez threw two touchdown passes to Cash Barajas, the second a 63-yard catch-and-run on a slant pattern.
The Spartans tallied 320 total yards of offense, with 173 coming on the ground. Sawyer Graham had nine tackles, five for a loss and one a quarterback sack.
Forks (1-0, 2-3) hosts Adna (1-1, 2-3) at 7 p.m. Friday.
Neah Bay 60, Darrington 6
DARRINGTON — Neah Bay’s Tyler Swan scored four first-half touchdowns as the Red Devils romped. Jodell Wimberly also had a 64-yard touchdown run. Neah Bay plays Crescent in Joyce on Saturday.
Quilcene 45, Muckleshoot 0
AUBURN — Quilcene freshman Isaac Figueroa had a 70-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and returned an interception for another score.
Tyler Wills also connected on a 34-yard field goal try in the third quarter.
Kaden Faller also had several quarterback sacks and Tyler Beukes and interception and long return.
Quilcene (4-1) plays Evergreen Lutheran on Saturday.
