PREP FOOTBALL RECAP: Port Angeles takes back Rainshadow trophy

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughriders had their biggest win in more than a year Friday night, smothering Sequim’s explosive offense and getting four touchdowns from Dylan Mann in a 27-14 Rainshadow Rumble victory.

The Riders won by completely dominating the time of possession. They ran 72 plays to Sequim’s 40 and converted nine third and fourth downs. Six minutes into the second quarter and Sequim had only run six offensive plays.

Port Angeles also forced three turnovers from the Wolves.

Mann ran the ball 33 times for 142 yards and had a critical 27-yard catch and run late in the second half, breaking a tackle in the open field to convert a fourth down, keeping the ball away from Sequim. The Riders eventually scored a touchdown on that drive to increase their lead to a two-score margin. Quarterback Carson Waddell passed for 193 yards, including 95 yards to Jude Wallace on three catches.

Sequim’s powerful duo of Zeke Schmadeke and Liam Wiker was held to 91 combined yards. The Wolves got one touchdown on a 16-yard pass from Kaden Miller to Patrick Elias and the second on a beautiful 35-yard throw from Miller to Malachi Hampton.

Port Angeles (1-1, 2-2) will host North Kitsap (1-1, 2-2) at 7 p.m. Friday. The Riders will have their hands full as the Vikings crushed North Mason 52-21. Sequim (0-1, 3-1) hosts Bremerton (1-0, 1-3) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Quilcene 60, Charles Wright 30

TACOMA — The Quilcene Rangers got the best game of Isaac Figueroa’s career in crushing Charles Wright 60-30 on Saturday.

Figueroa, carrying most of the load with Robert Evans nursing a nagging injury, carried the ball 22 times for 275 yards and four touchdowns. On defense as the middle linebacker, he made seven tackles.

Anikin Naputi forced a fumble and Ryder Thibodeau-Kjosen had seven tackles and three quarterback sacks.

Tyler Matheson had two interceptions, including a 25-yard pick-six late in the game to finish off the scoring. Oliver Hopkins rushed for 42 yards and Evans had 37 yards rushing and made nine tackles on defense.

Quilcene (1-3) will next host Muckleshoot Tribal at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Crescent 59, Lake Quinault 0

JOYCE — The Crescent football team improved to 5-0 in 6-man with a 59-0 victory over Lake Quinault on Saturday.

Mikah Love had a 58-yard punt return and a 25-yard run for touchdowns. Loki Ellis had a 7-yard touchdown run.

Some of the team’s eighth-graders and freshmen got to play and also contributed scores. Eighth-grader Colton Sage had an 18-yard touchdown pass to Logan Harris.

The Loggers tallied 281 yards rushing and 379 total yards. Liam Sprague ran nine times for 112 yards, while Ellis ran four times for 96 yards. Love had two rushes for 63 yards and Sage had a 10-yard run.

Jax Sprague passed 5-for-7 for 56 yards and a touchdown.
