This is the beginning of football playoffs this week with five local teams in the postseason and another team wrapping up its season with an extra game.
Sequim locked up the postseason with a 35-7 romp over North Mason on Friday. Quarterback Zeke Schmadeke had one of his biggest games of the year, gaining 230 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns.
Liam Wiker added 95 yards on 19 carries with three touchdowns.
Just as impressive was the Wolves’ defense, which allowed only 36 yards to the Bulldogs. That included -18 yards rushing. Solomon Sheppard, who came out late for football, impressed with an interception. He had a second interception and 70-yard return, but it was negated by a questionable call for a late hit on the quarterback.
Sequim (5-4) lucked out as some western Washington teams have to travel to the bitter cold central or eastern parts of the state in a new 32-team first round of playoffs. The Wolves will only have to travel as far as Chehalis to take on a tough 8-1 W.F. West team at noon Saturday. The Bearcats finished second in the Evergreen 2A League and are ranked No. 11 in Ratings Percentage Index. Evergreen 2A champion Tumwater is ranked No. 1 in the state.
Neah Bay 66, Concrete 14
NEAH BAY — The Neah Bay Red Devils, who already locked up the Northwest 1B League championship and a first-round playoff bye, finished their regular season with a 66-14 pasting of Concrete.
Makyah Chambers had his best game of the year. He passed 6-for-11 for 123 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 97 yards and three more touchdowns, then scored another touchdown on a 90-yard interception return. He also had a 40-yard punt return for 260 all-purpose yards while accounting for five touchdowns.
Adan Ellis had three catches for 93 yards and a touchdown, while Jodell Wimberly had 10 carries for 121 yards and a touchdown. J.Q. Johnson also had an interception.
Neah Bay, the No. 3-ranked 1B team in the state, sits back this week and waits to see who it will play on the weekend of Nov. 15-16.
East Jefferson 55, Vashon 0
PORT TOWNSEND — The East Jefferson Rivals football team has been improving all year and the work paid off with a season-ending 55-0 victory over the Vashon Pirates on Friday night.
East Jefferson got incredible games from Luke O’Hara and Jackson Dupuy.
O’Hara had 201 yards rushing on 12 carries with four touchdown runs. He also threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Deken Lorenzen, had a 12-yard catch and a 30-yard kick return. In all, he helped account for five touchdowns and 324 all-purpose yards.
Dupuy, meanwhile, had nine rushes for 185 yards and two touchdowns.
The Rivals finished with 555 yards rushing and 662 yards of total offense. James Henery ran three times for 51 yards and Alex Garcia had six rushes for 85 yards. The Rivals finished their season 1-8 in coach Tony Haddenham’s last game leading the team.
Olympic 48, Port Angeles 6
PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Trojans football team won a piece of the Olympic League championship with a 48-6 win over the Port Angeles Roughriders.
It was the conclusion of a rough season for the young Riders, who went 0-9. Port Angeles graduated 14 starting seniors from its state playoff 2023 team and was never able to get on track for a victory in 2024.
Olympic got up 48-0 at the half then played reserves in the second half.
Port Angeles got its touchdown in the fourth quarter thanks to two big runs. Brayden Wopperer had a 35-yard run to put the Riders on the 20, and Ricky Peterson finished off the drive with a 20-yard run.
Peterson led the team with 43 yards rushing on six carries.
Napavine 54, Forks 10
NAPAVINE — Forks wrapped its Central 2B League football regular season with a rain-soaked 54-10 loss to the undefeated league champion Napavine Tigers on Thursday.
The Spartans couldn’t contain the Tigers’ screen passing game, as five of Napavine quarterback Grady Wilson’s six completions went for touchdowns, including three to Karsen Denault.
Wilson finished with 220 passing yards, 71 rushing yards and six total touchdowns.
Forks managed 118 yards of total offense. Noah Foster had a 17-yard reception on the Spartans’ longest play from scrimmage from sophomore quarterback Bubba Hernandez-Stansbury that set up Forks’ touchdown.
Forks fumbled inside the 5-yard line, but Gage Willenbrink was there to pounce on it and get into the end zone.
Forks (3-6) will face Toledo (7-1) in a Class 2B Southwest District crossover playoff at 6 p.m. Friday in Kelso.
Crescent 62, Lummi 14
JOYCE — The Crescent football team got four touchdowns from Dom Sprague and tallied nearly 450 yards of offense in a 62-14 win over Lummi in the Loggers’ final home game of the year.
Having missed out on the postseason, Crescent (4-5) added a 10th game to its schedule in Forks against North Beach (3-6) at 7 p.m. Friday.
Sprague ran for 86 yards on 11 carries with rushing touchdowns of 2, 8 and 28 yards. His biggest play came on a 47-yard pick six.
Henry Bourm also had a big day, running five times for 130 yards, passing for 90 yards on 5-for-8 passing and two touchdowns and then catching a 54-yard touchdown pass from his brother Levi, for a total of 274 yards from scrimmage.
Josh Berson also had a 75-yard touchdown run, finishing with 85 yards on three carries. He added a 38-yard catch. Mikah Love also had four catches for 78 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown reception.
Quilcene 2, Tulalip Heritage 0
In other 1B games this weekend, Quilcene beat Tulalip Heritage in a forfeit to improve to 8-1. The Rangers will host Oakville at 6 p.m. Friday at Port Townsend Memorial Stadium. Also, undefeated Clallam Bay (6-0) will play Northwest Christian on the road in a six-man game on Friday.
