WEST SEATTLE — The Quilcene football squad got three touchdown passes from Holdem Elkins en route to crushing Seattle Lutheran 56-8 on the road to remain perfect in the Sea-Tac 1B League.
Bishop Budnek ran for 114 yards and two touchdowns, while DJ Richardson ran for 71 yards and two touchdowns.
Kristian Mack and Zach Budnek each had a touchdown catch for a score, while Chase Newman ran for a score. Zach Budnek also kicked four extra points.
Elkins finished the game perfect, 4 for 4 passing for 144 yards and three touchdowns.
Jakob Miller led the Rangers in tackles with 12. He also recovered a fumble. Shannon Kutler had nine tackles while newcomer Austin Hough had eight tackles and an interception that was unfortunately called back due to a penalty.
Coach Trey Beathard said he was glad with the team’s performance the entire game. In a win last week over Evergreen Lutheran, the Rangers played great in the first half, but got sloppy and made a lot of mistakes in the second half.
“I liked how they played the whole game,” Beathard said.
Beathard said everyone on the Rangers’ roster got in the game and he appreciated the attitude of the starters who sat through much of the second half.
“I liked how the older kids were cheering for the younger ones,” in the second half, he said.
The Rangers have been incredibly consistent this year with their scoring. In four out of their six games their year, they’ve scored either 56 or 58 points.
The Rangers (3-0, 5-1) next play Tacoma Baptist (0-3, 0-6) at home for homecoming at 1 p.m. Saturday. Beathard said Tacoma Baptist is not as bad as its record as the Crusaders have played Naselle, Almira-Coulee/Hartline and Lummi, three of the top 1B football programs in the entire state.

Bellevue Christian 35, Chimacum 28
BELLEVUE — In a strange game delayed for two hours by lightning, the Chimacum Cowboys put a huge scare into the Vikings, coming within one score of pulling off a wild comeback.
The Cowboys fell behind 35-6, but in the second half, Chimacum’s defense dominated in a game that began at 5 p.m. but didn’t end until 9:45 p.m. because of the lightning. In the end, the Vikings escaped with a 35-28 win.
“It was a pretty big comeback for as small as our team is,” said coach Chris Storm.
Storm said Kyle Caldwell had a huge game for the Cowboys on both offense and defense.
Caldwell took the all-important left tackle spot on offense, protecting the quarterback’s blind side.
“He played the game of his life,” Storm said.
The Cowboys were down 35-6 when they began their comeback. It began with a Henry Brebberman TD late in the third quarter. Brebberman then hit Anson Jones with a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to make it 35-20 after a Jones 2-point conversion.
With a minute left in the game, Chimacum scored another touchdown and a 2-point conversion to pull to within 35-28.
The Cowboys recovered two onside kicks, one by Cabe Martin and the other by Clayton Smith, during that comeback. A third onside kick rolled out-of-bounds just short of 10 yards as Cowboys players were ready to recover it.
”I can’t say enough about how they played. Physically, they took it to Bellevue Christian. Bellevue Christian was not even understanding how physical that game was,” Storm said.
Jones scored a touchdown and two 2-point conversions, while Carson McConnell scored two touchdowns and Brebberman scored a TD.
The Cowboys (1-3, 1-6) will look to maintain their momentum from their huge second half, with a senior night game at home at 6:30 p.m. Friday against visiting Vashon (0-4, 0-7).
