QUILCENE — Quilcene got four touchdowns from Olin Reynolds and shut out a feisty Mary M. Knight school that had come roaring back from a big deficit to win down the stretch 54-38.
The Rangers outscored the Owls 16-0 in the fourth quarter after allowing Mary M. Knight to come back from an early 14-point deficit. Quilcene had a 22-8 lead after the first quarter, but Mary M. Knight outscored the Rangers 30-16 in the second and third quarters.
“We played pretty well in the first and fourth quarters, but not nearly as well in the second and third,” said coach Trey Beathard.
“We scored kind of easily in the first quarter [22 points for Quilcene] and lost our intensity in the second quarter,” he said. “We turned it on in the fourth quarter.”
Reynolds picked up where he left off last season, tallying a total of 219 yards rushing and receiving and scoring four touchdowns, two on the ground and two on passes. Two of those scores came on 10-yard and 34-run yards in the pivotal fourth quarter. Reynolds also added a pair of two-point PAT conversions.
The Rangers tallied a total of 398 yards of offense, including 248 on the ground.
Reynolds rushed nine times for 146 yards, for a 16.2 yard-per-rush average and caught three passes for 73 yards. Isaac Dugdale in his first varsity action, had a nice game, rushing for 56 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown. Zach Budnek also rushed eight times for 44 yards.
Quarterback Holdem Elkins, in his first game taking over for Andy Johnston, who graduated after manning the Rangers’ offense the past few years, was 7-for-12 passing for 150 yards and four touchdowns.
Robert Comstock III caught two passes, one for 51 yards and the other for five, both for touchdowns.
Quilcene (1-0, 0-0) hosts Olympic Peninsula rival Crescent (1-0, 0-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday in a showdown of two powerful offenses. The Loggers scored 58 points in their season-opening win this weekend.

Morton-White Pass 56, Neah Bay 14
MORTON — Neah Bay fell behind 41-0 to Morton-White Pass before the Red Devils were able to get on the board in an 11-man game played Saturday.
The Timberwolves went on to win 56-14.
Neah Bay scored both if its touchdowns in the second quarter on passes by Josey Tyree to Jay Brunk within three seconds of each other. Brunk caught a 15-yarder for his first TD with three seconds left to play in the half. Tiger Brunk recovered on onside kick and Jay Brunk scored his second TD on a 37-yard pass play to end the half.
That was all the scoring the Red Devils could muster against the 2B school. Morton-White Pass had 316 yards rushing and no yards passing as the Timberwolves focused on a pure ground attack, only passing the ball once. The Timberwolves’ Jesse Urban and Gavyn Higdon each scored three touchdowns.
Neah Bay did generate 200 yards of offense, with Tyree throwing for 135 yards on 10 for 19 passing. But, the Red Devils had trouble doing damage on the ground. Tyree had 99 yards rushing, but lost 64 yards in sacks for 35 net rushing yards. Brunk had 22 yards on seven carries and ended up with four catches for 57 yards and two TDs. Neil Bowechop had three catches for 57 yards, while Billy Parkin III caught two passes for 20 yards.
Jay Brunk, Tyree and Parkin all had six tackles each.
