SEQUIM — Stadiums will serve important roles for Sequim and Port Angeles in this weekend’s North Olympic Peninsula prep football.
Tonight in Sequim, the Wolves will officially dedicate their home football and track and field stadium in a ceremony starting at 4:45 p.m.
School officials and representatives from the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and Sequim Alumni Association will be on hand to celebrate the naming of the athletic stadium and field; the stadium will be named after a S’Klallam word pronounced “stah-chung” and meaning “wolf,” while the field will be named for Myron Teterud, a longtime Sequim schools and community supporter who died in April 2021.
The Wolves (0-2) will then face Bainbridge (0-2) at 7 p.m.
The game will be broadcast live on KONP radio stations and online at myclallamcounty.com.
In Seattle, the Roughriders (1-1) will enjoy a special treat — a game against No. 5 North Kitsap on the turf at Lumen Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks.
Port Angeles will face the Vikings at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, part of a full day of prep football action at the professional stadium.
Tickets are available at Ticketmaster. Students also can buy tickets at the gate for $20.50 plus fees.
“That’s the biggest thing why we did it, the opportunity for these kids to play in a professional stadium,” Riders head coach Dustin Clark said. “We have up to 65 kids on the team, and we have 10 of them who haven’t even been there to watch a game. So, to get into the locker room and to play on the field, those memories are why we wanted to play there.”
Other games scheduled are Steilacoom vs. Orting at 9:30 a.m.; Tenino vs. Klahowya at 11:55 a.m.; Glacier Peak vs. Ferndale at 2:20 p.m. and Hazen vs. Juanita at 7:10 p.m.
The Port Angeles game will be broadcast live on KONP radio stations and online at myclallamcounty.com.
