PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles (1-0) will attempt to make it two wins in two tries against a Northwest Conference opponent when the Anacortes Seahawks come to Civic Field tonight at 6 p.m.
A 20-point third quarter helped the Roughriders bust open Blaine in a 33-19 win last Friday.
The Seahawks spent the previous two seasons playing an independent schedule in order to build their program back into a competitive position in the always-difficult Class 1A/2A Northwest Conference.
After going 9-1 against a number of lesser opponents, Anacortes opened with a 35-7 win over Class 3A Oak Harbor last week.
Quarterback Rex Larson was touted as a player to watch this season by media outlets and was an impressive 18-for-27 passing for 354 yards and three TDs in the Seahawks’ first win.
Port Angeles will look to establish the run with its stable of running backs, including Kason Albaugh, Jason Hawes and Landry Jones. The squad put up more than 260 rushing yards last week.
Sequim at Tenino
TENINO — The Wolves (0-1) will look to bounce back against a team with a similar profile to Forks.
“Same kind of scheme as Forks, they’ll try to run it right at us,” Wolves coach Erik Wiker said of the Beavers.
Tenino attempted three passes, completing one, in a 20-7 win over Pe Ell-Willapa Valley last week.
“Thankfully, they don’t have their Oregon State defensive end this year,” Wiker said.
Wiker was referencing Tenino’s Takari Hickle, a freshman on the collegiate Beavers’ roster.

East Jefferson at King’s
SHORELINE — The Rivals couldn’t get their running game untracked in last week’s 50-23 loss to Kingston, rushing for less than 100 yards total.
King’s, a Class 1A power, is located on the grounds of the former Firland Tuberculosis Sanatorium. The Knights topped Lincoln of Seattle 48-23 last week.

Saturday
Mossyrock at Quilcene
QUILCENE — The Rangers will look for a smoother home opener against the Vikings, a preseason top 10 pick which opened the season with a 60-6 win over Concrete on the road last week.
Beset with a bus breakdown, Quilcene was forced to push back its opening game from last Friday to Saturday against Naselle. Missing a number of players due to prior commitments, including some archery deer hunters, the Rangers lost 38-8 to the Comets.
Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
Forks at LaConner
LACONNER — The Spartans (1-0) should roll up a nonleague win against a Braves team (0-0) that failed to win a game in a weak league last fall. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
Crescent at Taholah
TAHOLAH — Nowhere to go up but up for the Loggers after a tough season-opening loss to Charles Wright.
The game kicks off at 4 p.m.
Naselle vs. Neah Bay (at Forks)
FORKS — The Red Devils have revenge on their minds after giving away last season’s season opener in a 48-42 OT loss.
Both teams showed they have plenty of offensive firepower at hand as Neah Bay scored 74 points against the Port Angeles JV and Naselle dumped Quilcene 38-8 last week.
These two squads are arguably the top eight-man teams on the west side of the state, and this game could be a preview of a rematch in the state playoffs in November.
The game kicks off at 5 p.m.
