PORT ANGELES — Those looking to get their fix of Friday Night Lights here on the North Olympic Peninsula have a scant number of options this week with just three home games on the schedule.
Port Townsend will host Coupeville today at 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Field in a game moved up from a normal 7 p.m. start due to tidal trouble on the Port Townsend-Coupeville ferry route.
After picking up their first eight-man football win last weekend, Neah Bay steps up to host Class 2B Morton-White Pass in an 11-man game tonight at 5 p.m.
In Clallam Bay, the Bruins (1-1) will host a six-man football home game against Crescent (2-3) tonight at 7 p.m.
There is one game on the Peninsula on Saturday and it’s a big one: a clash between undefeated Quilcene (1-0, 4-0) and Tacoma Baptist (1-0, 3-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday in Quilcene.
Coupeville at Port Townsend
PORT TOWNSEND — The Redhawks (2-0, 2-3) host the Wolves (1-1, 3-2) in a crucial Olympic-Nisqually League showdown today at 3:30 p.m. Port Townsend is looking to remain tied for first with No. 8 Cascade Christian and Charles Wright, while Coupeville wants to throw a wrench into the Redhawks’ potential postseason plans.
Prediction: Port Townsend 26, Coupeville 20
Port Angeles at Renton
RENTON — When the opposition schedules you for homecoming, they are planning on a big win, a fun dance and a boost in school spirit.
That’s the situation facing the Roughriders (2-1, 3-2), who are hoping to get revenge after a 33-6 loss to the Indians last year at Civic Field.
Renton (0-4, 0-5) has yet to pick up a win in the competitive South Puget Sound League’s Sound Division, while Port Angeles seeks its third straight win on the season.
Prediction: Port Angeles 27, Renton 21
Sequim at North Mason
BELFAIR — The Wolves (0-2, 2-3) need a win to climb out of the Olympic League 2A Division cellar and stay in the playoff chase. They face a Bulldogs squad (1-2, 3-2) which opened with three straight wins but has fallen back to Earth after losses to Port Angeles and Olympic.
This is the Wolves’ first game on the new turf at North Mason’s Phil Pugh Field. Expect Sequim’s speed to give the Bulldogs big problems.
Prediction: Sequim 33, North Mason 14
Forks at Tenino
TENINO — The Spartans (0-1, 4-1) look to rebound from a humbling loss to No. 4 Montesano last week in their Evergreen League opener.
The Beavers (0-1, 1-3) debuted a brand-new, black-colored artificial turf playing surface this season.
Prediction: Forks 44, Tenino 14
Morton-White Pass at Neah Bay
NEAH BAY — The Red Devils (1-0, 2-3) will hope to stay healthy in an 11-man game against the 2B Timberwolves (1-2, 2-3).
Prediction: Morton-White Pass 34, Neah Bay 16
Crescent at Clallam Bay
CLALLLAM BAY — The Loggers (0-1, 2-3) are looking to get back on the winning track after coming close in losses against Quilcene and Neah Bay. The Bruins (1-1) want to improve upon a 73-19 loss to Crescent last month.
Prediction: Crescent 65, Clallam Bay 35
Tacoma Baptist at Quilcene
QUILCENE — The Rangers and Crusaders meet in a game that will likely decide the SeaTac League championship and the No. 1 seed to the playoffs.
Tacoma Baptist ran all over Quilcene last year in a 58-8 win on the turf at Curtis High School.
This one is on the grass at the Rangers’ home field, which should give Quilcene an advantage.
Prediction: Quilcene 34, Tacoma Baptist 32
Chimacum at Bellevue Christian
KIRKLAND — The Cowboys (0-2, 2-3) will try to snap their three-game losing skid without their starting quarterback after an ejection in last week’s rivalry game loss to Port Townsend.
This game will be played at Lake Washington High School at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Prediction: Bellevue Christian 26, Chimacum 20
