PREP FOOTBALL: Neah Bay wrapping up regular season against rival Clallam Bay; other area previews

PORT ANGELES — The final weekend of the high school football regular season continues tonight, highlighted by two contests with plenty of pride on the line in the Battle of the Bays between Neah Bay and Clallam Bay and a chance for Chimacum to pick up its first win of the season at Vashon.

Neah Bay at Clallam Bay

CLALLAM BAY — The Red Devils will hope to stay healthy and undefeated in advance of their upcoming playoff run, while the Bruins will try and pull off a senior night upset against the No. 1-ranked defending champs.

The game can be heard live on Forks 1490 AM or online at www.forks1490.com.

Chimacum at Vashon

VASHON — Chimacum’s last shot at a victory this regular season comes against a familiar opponent having a familiar season.

The Pirates have struggled to a 1-7 season so far.

The Cowboys knocked off Vashon 33-21 last year in a game that spanned three days.

An electrical transformer caught fire at Memorial Field late in the game last season with Chimacum trailing 21-20, and forcing a Monday afternoon resumption at Chimacum High School.

Charles Wright at Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — How much will either team show the other in this nonleague contest?

The two teams are likely to face off again next Friday at Memorial Field with a 1A state playoff spot at stake, barring an unlikely upset of Cascade Christian by one-win Bellevue Christian this week.

Next week’s game is the one that matters, so expect some vanilla play calling on offense and base sets on defense before backups come on to get plenty of playing time.

Neah Bay JV at Crescent

JOYCE — Homecoming and senior day festivities are on tap in this contest, which came together after last Friday’s school shooting rearranged the final weeks of the regular season.

Kickoff is set for noon.

This will be the final game of the season for the Loggers (2-5), who were originally scheduled to play Lopez on Saturday.

However, the Lobos’ game against Lummi that was postponed due to the shootings at Marysville Pilchuck High School last week had postseason seeding implications, so the WIAA allowed the Northwest Football League to change the schedule to allow Lopez and Lummi to play this week.

Forks vs. Eatonville

The two most far-flung teams in the Evergreen League will meet somewhere close to the middle — the artificial turf of Stewart Field in Aberdeen at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Cruisers (6-0, 8-0) have clinched the league championship and spot in the 1A state playoffs.

Forks didn’t suffer further injuries in last week’s 28-6 loss to Aberdeen, a silver lining in a season wracked with injury problems.

The game can be heard live on Forks 1490 AM or online at www.forks1490.com.

Editor’s Note: All games kickoff at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
