CLALLAM BAY — Josiah Greene ran for three long touchdowns and 205 yards as top-ranked Neah Bay beat Clallam Bay 56-14 in a nonleague between Northwest Football League foes.
Greene had touchdown runs of 57, 77 and 60 yards. He also hooked up with Ryan Moss for a 21-yard touchdown pass.
Christopher Martinez, who rushed for 81 yards on 10 carriers, added a pair of touchdown runs for the Red Devils. Zeke Greene and Collin Haupt also ran for a touchdown each.
“Neah Bay is fast,” Clallam Bay coach Cal Ritter after Friday’s game.
He then quoted a famous rant by former Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green.
“I mean, they are who they thought we were,” Ritter said.
“They’re fast and disciplined. They’re Neah Bay.”
Ritter had to shuffle his players to different positions, including using top running backs Calvin Ritter and Matt Mohr as blockers.
This gave more carries to Casey Randall and Brian Smith. Both were playing their first games of the season, and both scored touchdowns for the Bruins.
Randall picked up 119 yards on 18 carries.
“The kid’s fast, real fast,” Cal Ritter said.
“He’s real quick and deceptive.”
Cal Ritter also praised the leadership of junior quarterback Kelly Gregory, especially considering the lopsided score.
“Kelly has stepped up and become a good leader,” Cal Ritter said.
“He’s like a coach on the field. He’s leading the team real well.”
Zeke Greene led Neah Bay with seven tackles, while Tyus McGee, Mitchell McGee, Martinez and John Reamer each had six.
Reamer also blocked a punt that set up Zeke Greene’s 16-yard touchdown run.
The Bruins (1-2) next plays at Quilcene on Saturday.
“We’ll regroup this week; we’ve got another tough one next week against Quilcene,” Cal Ritter said.
Neah Bay (3-0), ranked No. 1 in class 1B, has a bye this week before hosting rival Lummi, ranked No. 3, on Friday, Oct. 4.
North Mason 42, Port Angeles 6
BELFAIR — The Roughriders lost their Olympic League opener to fall to 0-3 on the season.
Port Angeles’ only score came on a 68-yard pass from Nate Angevine to Matt Robbins. The two have connected for a long touchdown pass in each of the Riders’ three games this season.
Miki Andrus gained 137 yards on the ground for Port Angeles, and Robbins added 41.
The surprise Bulldogs improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Riders host Olympic (0-1, 1-2) at Civic Field this week.
The Trojans lost to Kingston 34-12 on Friday.
Forks 19, Toledo 0
TOLEDO — The Spartans won a defensive slugfest over the Indians to move to 1-2 on the season.
Forks held Toledo to 105 yards for the entire game.
The Spartans scores came on a 40-yard run by Demtri Sampson, and a pair of 2-yard runs by Brett Pederson and Miguel Morales.
Pederson has scored a touchdown in each of Forks’ three games this year. Morales and Sampson have the team’s other four touchdowns, with two apiece.
Forks hosts Tenino on Friday in its SWL-Evergreen Division opener.
Bellevue Christian 28, Chimacum 6
CLYDE HILL — The Cowboys lost their Nisqually League opener and fell to 0-2 on the season.
Drew Yackulic had seven solo tackles, and interception and forced fumble for Chimacum. He also had 28 yards rushing and caught one pass for 11 yards.
Quarterback Alex Morris led the Cowboys with 71 yards rushing.
Chimacum plays Cedar Park Christian at Juanita High School in Kirkland on Friday.
