PREP FOOTBALL: Marysville Pilchuck tragedy affects area football schedules — Crescent will host Neah Bay JV this Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The ripple effects of last Friday’s school shooting at Marysville Pilchuck High School have resulted in a reshuffling of the last games of the Northwest 1B Football League regular season.

Neah Bay earned the league championship and the league’s No. 1 seed into the postseason.

Last Friday’s Lummi-Lopez game was postponed and will now be played Saturday, with the winner the league’s second seed and the loser the third seed to the playoffs.

Saturday’s scheduled game between Lopez and Crescent has been replaced with a game between the Neah Bay junior varsity and Crescent.

That game, the Loggers’ homecoming and senior day, will be played at the school in Joyce at noon.

Tulalip games canceled

It is not likely that last Saturday’s Clallam Bay-Tulalip Heritage game will be played.

Another game scheduled for Thursday between Lummi and Tulalip Heritage also has been canceled.

Crescent High School athletic director Dave Bingham announced these decisions after phone discussions with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and representatives of Neah Bay, Clallam Bay, Lopez and Lummi high schools.

Marysville School District athletic director Greg Erickson, who also oversees Tulalip Heritage athletics, was not consulted out of respect for his time and the issues he is dealing with in response to the tragedy in his district, according to Bingham.
