PREP FOOTBALL: Loggers crush the Acorns 78-0

JOYCE — The Crescent Loggers only ran 17 plays on offense.

But, with those 17 plays, the Loggers amassed 346 yards of offense — an average of 20.4 yards per play in thoroughly dominating outmatched Oakville on Saturday 78-0.

Tuning up for the playoffs, the Loggers’ defense also forced four fumbles and two interceptions and sacked the Acorns’ quarterback seven times.

Braden Emery had his biggest game of the year with an 85-yard kickoff return and an 83-yard touchdown catch from his brother Eric. Braden also had a 24-yard touchdown run, a sack and an interception.

With the lopsided score, pretty much the whole roster played. Usual workhorse Noah Leonard only ran the ball three times, but he had four touchdowns on TD runs of 17, 17 and 24 yards and a 26-yard fumble recovery.

Isiah Simpson scored a touchdown on a 27-yard run, while Kylan Scheid had a score on a 41-yard run. Wyatt Lee had a 30-yard touchdown run and Jimmy Bruch had an 18-yard touchdown reception on a pass from Eric Emery.

On defense, Lee had two sacks, Bruch a sack and a fumble recovery, Malachi Treadway caused one fumble and recovered another, Brenten Dalton had a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery. Leonard had a fumble recovery and a sack.

“They [Oakville] were a really young team,” said coach Brian Shimko.

The win puts the Loggers at 8-2 (4-0 in league) with a game at Mary M. Knight in Matlock at 1 p.m. Saturday as the Loggers look to finish play in their new 1B league unbeaten. Shimko said it appears the Loggers will get to host a playoff game in a couple of weeks, possibly against Wishkah Valley.
