BREMERTON — Sequim’s third-quarter rally sputtered in the fourth quarter as the Wolves lost 44-21 to Klahowya at Silverdale Stadium.
After the Eagles took a 29-7 lead, Sequim responded with a pair of touchdowns.
Brett Wright scored on a 51-yard pass from Miguel Moroles and Chris Whitaker on a 2-yard run to cut the deficit to 29-21 near the end of the third quarter.
But Klahowya put the game away with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, leaving the Wolves (0-5, 0-7) winless on the season.
Sequim dug itself a first-half hole on Friday with four turnovers and an Eagles successful onside kick.
Klahowya scored twice in the first quarter to jump out to a 15-0 lead.
The Wolves slimmed the gap to 15-7 on a 10-yard strike from Moroles to Wright with 8:33 to play in the half.
Wright finished with 10 catches for 147 yards.
Moroles completed 15 of 24 passes for 167 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for 71 yards on 14 carries.
Injuries to Adam Knapman, Nate Nelson and Ty Jones made Whitaker Sequim’s feature back, and the sophomore acquitted himself well with 87 yards on 24 carries and one touchdown.
“He was fantastic,” Wolves offensive coordinator Dave Ditlefsen said.
Sequim will again try for its first win Friday night at home against rival Port Angeles.
North Kitsap 47, Port Angeles 7
POULSBO — Fresh off their first win of the season, the Roughriders had to go on the road to face one of the Olympic League’s top teams.
The Vikings jumped all over Port Angeles early, scoring 19 points in the first quarter and 21 more in the second to take a 40-0 lead into halftime.
The Riders finally reached the scoreboard in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard run by sophomore Caleb West.
Port Angles was held to 169 yards total offense in Friday’s game.
The Riders were playing without starting quarterback Nate Angevine, who suffered a freak injury during head coach Tom Wahl’s fifth period P.E. class earlier Friday.
Wahl said Angevine was walking to put his weightlifting belt away “and his knee collapsed on him.”
“That was a bummer for us,” Wahl said.
“He’s kind of our general on offense and defense.”
Port Angeles turned to JV quarterback Ryan Rodocker, who went 3 for 13 with 46 yards passing.
“He did a fine job,” Wahl said of Rodocker.
“It was kind of a tough deal to throw him in there like that.
“He didn’t miss a beat. He’s a good athlete.”
Matt Robbins led the Riders with 52 yards rushing. He also caught on pass for 25 yards.
Miki Andrus finished with 42 yards rushing, and West had 21.
With only two games to play in the regular season, Port Angeles’ unlikely playoff hopes became mathematically impossible.
The Riders (1-4, 1-6) travel to play winless rival Sequim (0-5, 0-7) on Friday.
Wahl told the Peninsula Daily News that Angevine’s status for the game is unknown as of Saturday afternoon.
North Kitsap (5-0, 5-2), meanwhile, will play for first place in the Olympic League on the road against Kingston (5-0, 6-1).
Rochester 35, Forks 7
ROCHESTER — With Montesano experiencing a down year, the Warriors have placed themselves at the top of the SWL-Evergreen Division.
They made believers out of the Spartans on Friday night.
“We felt like we didn’t have an answer for them,” Forks coach Mark Feasel said.
“We played flat, and we needed to play our best game to beat them.”
The Spartans made to many mistakes, such as struggling to finish drives with scores and having a 90-yard kickoff return called back due to penalty.
Dimitri Sampson scored Forks’ only touchdown on a run in the fourth quarter.
Rochester running back Tyler Yarber ran for 270 yards and four touchdowns.
The Spartans (2-2, 3-4) are still in postseason contention. They are currently tied with Montesano (2-2, 3-4) for fourth place and the league’s final playoff spot. The Bulldogs lost to Tenino 26-6.
Forks plays at Elma (3-1, 3-3) on Friday and host Hoquiam (1-3, 2-5) on Nov. 1.
Charles Wright 55, Chimacum 14
TACOMA — The Cowboys remained winless on the season with a big Nisqually League loss to the Tarriers.
Alexander Moore ran for four touchdowns as Charles Wright scored 34 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second quarter to quickly put the game out of reach.
Chimacum scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, one on a 4-yard run by Victor Hitt and another on a 45-yard fumble return by Trevon Noel.
The Cowboys (0-3, 0-6) host Vashon Island (0-4, 1-5) at Memorial Field on Friday.
With the loss, Chimacum is assured of finishing fourth in Nisqually League Division 2, and will play Division 1’s fourth-place team in a cross-over game Nov. 1 or 2.
Currently, Bellevue Christian in No. 4 in Division 1, a game ahead of Vashon Island.
Lummi 74, Clallam Bay 26
CLALLAM BAY — The Bruins were able to move the ball against fifth-ranked Lummi but were undone by turnovers.
“The score doesn’t show it, but we played pretty darn good football,” Clallam Bay coach Cal Ritter said.
“All in all, I’m happy with the way we played.
“We moved the ball pretty well. If you can’t hold onto the ball, you can’t score, not against a team like Lummi.”
Casey Randall scored three touchdowns, including a 97-yard return of the opening kickoff. He also had touchdown runs of 27 and 53 yards.
Randall finished with 107 yards rushing.
Matt Mohr again led the Bruins with 139 yards on 13 carries, including a 58-yard touchdown run. Mohr also caught one pass for 22 yards.
Clallam Bay (1-2, 2-5) returns to action Friday night against Tulalip Heritage (0-2, 1-3) in the Bruins’ homecoming game.
