PREP FOOTBALL: Kingston knocks down East Jefferson in opener

Bus issues force Quilcene to play Saturday at Naselle

PORT TOWNSEND — Missed blocks and missed tackles hurt East Jefferson in a season-opening 50-23 loss to Kingston on Friday night at Memorial Field.

“We just missed a lot of blocks watching film,” coach Tony Haddenham said.

“We missed a whole bunch of tackles. We are screaming to the ball, but we weren’t breaking down and making the tackles. So those are two areas we will work on this week.”

Cash Holmes completed 12 of 30 passes for 247 yards with two TDs and an interception on a night when the Rivals had trouble establishing the run against the Buccaneer’s big front line.

Gary Zambor hauled in three passes for 91 yards and both passing TDs.

Sophomore Brody Moore had six catches for 75 yards in his high school debut.

Gerald Lindsey led the Rivals with 10 tackles, including a forced fumble and another fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.

Trevor Olson totaled three forced fumbles and Aaron Glantz (eight), Sean Jones (five) and Tanner Haddenham (4) also were involved defensively.

The Rivals (0-1) visit traditional Class 1A power King’s (1-0) in Shoreline on Friday. The Warriors beat Lincoln of Seattle 48-23 on Friday.

NASELLE — Transportation issues for Quilcene forced a one-day postponement of the Rangers-Comets matchup.

The game has been rescheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Naselle.
