PREP FOOTBALL FRIDAY UPDATE — First the good news: there is a next week

EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated to correct the manner in which Geordyn Shinard scored his four touchdowns. He ran for three scores and caught another.

SEQUIM — Sequim became only the third team to score on the Olympic Trojans, the the 10-yard touchdown pass from Riley Cowan to Gavin Velarde was nowhere near enough for the Wolves in a 48-7 loss Friday night.

Olympic running back Geordyn Shinard scored four touchdowns, three by ground and one by air, and one and quarterback Matt Becker threw for three and ran for one.

Sequim finishes the regular season Thursday at Bremerton and then host a postseason game Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Tulalip Heritage 66, Clallam Bay 52

CLALLAM BAY — Bruins head coach Cal Ritter expected a shootout, and Friday’s Northwest Football League showdown with the Hawks certainly delivered its share of explosive plays.

Trailing 38-20 at halftime and 52-26 after three quarters, Clallam Bay’s comeback bid simply ran out of time.

The Bruins fell victim to some special teams lapses, a lack of a consistent pass rush and the spectacular play of Tulalip Heritage’s Robert Miles Jr.

Miles scored four touchdowns. He rushed for two TDs, caught another and also returned a kick 70 yards for a score.

His 49-yard rush with 3:36 to play essentially sealed the win for the Hawks.

Miles’ play offset a gritty performance from the Bruins’ Clayton Willis.

Willis, just a freshman, rushed 33 times for 251 yards and five scores, and also caught three passes for 80 yards and two more TDs.

Ritter said Clallam Bay will be the fourth seed out of the Northwest League to the 1B district tournament.

The Bruins will wrap their regular season at Neah Bay next Friday.
