BREMERTON — Wesley Wheeler ran for three touchdowns and Port Townsend kept its roll going with a 52-6 win over Klahowya at Silverdale Stadium on Friday.
After Klahowya fumbled on its first play from scrimmage, Wheeler took a handoff on the Redhawks’ first play and ran 21 yards to the end zone.
Wheeler and Detrius Kelsall added two more TDs in the first quarter to provide Port Townsend (3-0) with a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.
Ezra Easley, Carson Marx and Jacob Ralls also scored TDs for the Redhawks and Gerard Coker kicked a 20-yard field goal.
Klahowya (1-2) was playing without starting quarterback George Harris so the Redhawks changed their defense to keep Dylan Zuber, Harris’ replacement, on the run.
Zuber did throw one TD pass, an 8-yarder to Nate Hough. It was the first points scored on Port Townsend this season.
The Redhawks have outscored their opponents 145-6 this season.
North Mason 20, Port Angeles 14
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ attempt at overcoming a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit came up short in a 20-14 loss to North Mason at Civic Field on Friday.
Trailing 14-7 and forced to punt inside their own 20-yard line, the Roughriders’ punt snap bounced off an upback and was recovered by the Bulldogs at the Port Angeles 9-yard line.
On the next play, North Mason’s Mac Jones ran for a touchdown, putting the Riders in a 20-7 hole with 10:17 left in the game.
Port Angeles put together a quick scoring drive that was capped by a 4-yard score from Cyler McBride to pull within 20-14.
The Riders held on defense and pushed the ball to the North Mason 36-yard line before a sack pushed them back to the 45.
With the clock running and lacking timeouts, Port Angeles had to stop the clock on third down.
Ryan Rodocker’s desperation fourth-and-19 pass was incomplete out of bounds, sealing the win for the Bulldogs (1-0, 1-2).
Kellen Landry was a bright spot for the Port Angeles offense, running 21 times for 95 yards and catching two passes for 36 yards.
Port Angeles (0-1, 1-2) hosts Bremerton next Friday.
Sequim 13, Kingston 10
KINGSTON — The Wolves’ defense made two big plays during the Buccaneers’ final drive downfield in the waning moments of Friday’s game.
First, Sequim caused a 5-yard loss to push Kingston back to the Sequim 40-yard line.
Then, on the final play of the game, the Buccaneers’ last-chance heave was intercepted in the end zone by Kane Stoddard to preserve the win and the Wolves’ 3-0 start to the season.
“They had to earn every last point,” Sequim coach Erik Wiker said of Kingston.
“We had a lot of kids step up and play out of position tonight, but our defense has an attitude and made big plays.”
Noah Christiansen made two huge plays for the Wolves.
He caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Riley Cowan in the first quarter and intercepted a Kingston pass in the second, returning the ball 40 yards to the Buccaneers’ 1-yard line.
Brandon Stamper scored on the next play and Sequim led 13-3 at halftime.
The Wolves (1-0, 3-0) will host North Kitsap (1-2) next Friday.
