BREMERTON — The Port Angeles boys cross-country team won an Olympic League 2A meet at Gordon Field on Wednesday with the Roughriders’ Jack Gladfelter taking first place individually.
Sequim’s Riley Pyeatt won the girls’ race, helping the Wolves’ girls team finish second. The Roughrider boys had five runners in the top nine, while the Sequim girls had four runners in the top 17.
Gladfelter and Pyeatt won by similar big margins. Gladfelter ran the 5K in 16 minutes, 30.2 seconds, beating Sequim’s Colby Ellefson (17:04.0) by 34 seconds. Port Angeles’ Maxwell Baeder finished third at 17:04.5, just a step behind Ellefson.
The Port Angeles boys tallied 35 team points, ahead of Kingston’s 39 (cross country is like golf in that lower scores are better). Sequim finished fifth as a team with 132 points.
Naaman McGuffey finished seventh (17:43.9), Langdon Larson eighth (17:45.9) and Joshua Gavin ninth (17:57.1). Kingston picked up the fourth through sixth-place finishes to remain close to the Riders in points.
On the girls side, Sequim finished tied with North Mason with 66 points. North Kitsap won the team competition with 42 points. Port Angeles had 151 points, good for sixth.
Pyeatt finished with a time of 19:13.6, easily beating the second-place runner by 44 seconds. Sequim’s Kaitlyn Bloomenrader had a solid race, finishing fifth with a time of 21:13.0.
Port Angeles’ best runner was freshman Zakara Braun, who finished 11th in a time of 23:35.7. Sequim had two more top-20 finishers in Aidyn Shingle (16th, 24:00.7) and Anastasia Updike (17th, 24:12.1).
In the boys’ JV race, Port Angeles’ Kowen Kasten won in a time of 19:17.6, while teammate Samuel Hayes finished third (19:42.0).

Port Townsend XC
PORT TOWNSEND — Max Allworth-Miles led the East Jefferson boys to a Nisqually League cross-country victory Tuesday at the Port Townsend Golf Course.
Allworth-Miles won the two-mile boys race with a time of 10:41.1, leading East Jefferson to a team win over Cascade Christian and Charles Wright. East Jefferson placed four runners in the top eight to tally 27 points, well ahead of Charles Wright’s 42 and Cascade Christian’s 53.
Meanwhile, East Jefferson’s Aliyah Yearian won the girls’ race in a time of 12:22.1.
Sabastian Manza took second in the boys race at 10:52.8, while Rivals teammate Glen Dawson was fourth at 10:54.7. Soare Johnston was eighth at 11:42.8. Indigo Gould finished 16th (13:12.8), while Aiden Nichols was 22nd (14:52.4) and Roscoe Barry 23rd (15:04.5).
Tristan Herbig was 27th (16:15.4), Alexander Robison 28th (16:23.7) and Alex Lott 30th (21:55.4).
For the girls, Camryn Hines was third (13:11.2), Lia Poore sixth (14:16.3), Tadu Dollarhide seventh (14:17.1), Fiona Fraser ninth (15:16.4), Sylvia Butterfield 10th (15:19.0) and Ava Vaughan-Mifsud 12th (15:50.8).
