TACOMA — The East Jefferson boys cross-country team is already serving notice that it will be a dangerous squad at the 1A state cross-country meet.
The Rivals won a Nisqually League meet last week and this week, this did one, better, winning the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational, beating out a pair of 4A schools to take the crown.
The Rivals took first with 65 points, while 4A Mount Si was second with 68. South Kitsap, also a 4A school, was third with 71 points.
The Rivals were led by Joshua Yearian, who finished second in a time of 16 minutes, 33.7 seconds.
The Rivals showed their depth with four runners in the top 12. Nico Errichetti came in 7th with a time of 16:58.00, Noah Isenberg was 11th (17:16.5) and Dustin Hines 12th (17:24).
Zeke Banks was a solid 36th (19:01.7), while John Neville was 53rd (21:10.1) and Maxwell Neumann 56th (23:06.1). There were 59 runners in the boys’ race.
The East Jefferson girls also had a solid meet, coming in fifth with 135 points. Mount Si dominated with race with the top three finishes, ending up with 28 points. East Jefferson had three runners in the top 28. There were 112 runners in the girls’ race.
Leah Ferland had the Rivals’ best showing, coming in 17th with a time of 21:32.6. Michael Gregg was 21st at 21:50.4 and Hilina Taylor-Lenz as 28th (22:35.4).
Carlotte Hines finished 58th (34:50.7), Alli Applewhite 62nd (25:05.1), Arden Moore 83rd (27:08.2) and Clara Camp 84th (27:08.3).
There were also college runners competing in 6K (women) and 8K (men) races. A recent East Jefferson graduate, Fiona Fraser, had an outstanding race competing as an unaffiliated runner, finishing third with a time of 21:59.1.
Sequim graduate Dawn Hulstedt, now running for Central Washington, came in 36th with a time of 24:17.5. There were 136 women competing in the college race.
For the men, Port Angeles’ Max Baeder, who now competes for The Evergreen State College, finished 18th with a time of 26:27.5. Indigo Gould, a recent East Jefferson graduate competing as an unaffiliated runner, finished 51st with a time of 27:35.2.
PA, Sequim results
STEILACOOM — Port Angeles and Sequim competitors ran in the Fort Steilacoom Invitational this weekend.
The event was broken down into bronze, gold and silver races based on runners’ career times.
Port Angeles’ Easton Dempsey did the best of the local runners, coming in 22nd in the silver race with a time of 17:31.5.
Right behind him were Adrian Osborne and Reid Randall of Sequim. Osborne finished 25th in 17:33, while Randall was 26th in 17:33.3.
Port Angeles’ Andre Campbell was 34th (17:45.5), while Sequim’s Gavin Tupper was 66th (18:097) and his teammate Westley French was 90th (18:35). Port Angeles’ Henry Wendel was 102nd (18:48.5), teammate Jay Lieberman 115th (19:08.7) and Sequim’s Josh Wakefield 116th (19:10).
