PREP BRIEF: Port Angeles tennis wins big over Bremerton

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles girls tennis squad beat Bremerton 6-1 on Monday, getting a clean sweep from its doubles teams.

Waverly Mead had the toughest match, coming from behind and winning in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Heine Rode. Angelina Sprague also won her singles match 6-0, 6-0 over Liza Allen.

Liberty Lauer had the lone loss on the day, though her match went to three sets. Bremerton’s Yume Ishizaka was able to come from behind to win 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, all four teams won in straight sets. Hannah Basden/Shannon Callahan, Dindy Liang/Anna Niles and Bella Artis/Olivia Carroll all won 6-0, 6-0. Gweneth VanBlair/Gillian Wolfe won 6-2, 6-0.

Port Angeles (2-2) next plays at Olympic (1-0) on Thursday.
