PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend boys were within four points halfway through the fourth quarter against a hot-shooting Overlake team, but they struggled to score down the stretch en route to a 55-40 loss to conclude the Crush in the Slush tournament.
Overlake, which won both of its game at the Crush, drilled 10 3-pointers in Saturday night’s game, including five in the fourth quarter, to keep the Redhawks at bay.
Port Townsend hit six treys of its own, but a lid came over the Redhawks’ bucket in the final five minutes of the game. After a Kaiden Parcher bucket made the score 43-39, the Redhawks were outscored 12-1 down the stretch.
Parcher led Port Townsend with 12 points. Jacob Boucher hit three 3-pointers and scored 11, while Noa Montoya hit two 3-pointers and scored eight. Jackson Foster had seven points and a lot of crucial rebounds.
“We definitely had chances,” said coach Tom Webster. “That was a pretty good team. They hit some threes and stretched it out on us. You give up 10 threes, that’s the difference in the game.”
Overlake pressed all game and the Owls’ defensive pressure resulted in five early steals and turnovers, giving them a quick 11-6 lead. The Redhawks dealt better with the pressure after the shaky start to the game, going on a 9-0 run to take a 15-11 lead. The Owls responded with a 9-0 run of their own to retake the lead at 20-15.
The game stayed close throughout, with Overlake never building up a lead of more than eight points until the final minutes. Every time the Owls built up a lead, the Redhawks responded with some clutch baskets until the stretch run in the fourth.
Webster said turnovers did end up hurting the Redhawks but he was glad how his team responded to Overlake’s pressure.
“We have to make better decisions, we’re working on it. I like a lot of the things we do, and there’s things we need to work on.”
Port Townsend split a pair at the Crush, beating Blaine 65-45 on Friday. The Redhawks (1-1, 4-5) next play at home at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday against Klahowya in an Olympic League 1A game.

Clallam Bay wins at Crescent Tournament
JOYCE — The Clallam Bay boys won their first game of the year, getting a whopping 35 points from Ryan McCoy in a 58-42 win at the Crescent Holiday Tournament over Christian Faith.
Caiton Smith and Michael Maine also chipped in six apiece for the Bruins.
“They needed that,” said coach Ryan Gregory.
“We only have seven players and just a couple of seniors, but we’re starting to come around a bit,” Gregory said.
McCoy had another big game against Sulamita Christian at the Crescent Tournament. This is a very good 6-2 team that won 64-27 over the Bruins. McCoy scored 18 in that game to average 26.5 in the two tournament games.
Clallam Bay (1-5) next hosts Chief Kitsap at 7:15 p.m. Friday for a North Olympic B League game.

SEATTLE — The Neah Bay boys got way behind in the first half against Seattle and were not able to catch up in a better second half in a 71-46 loss.
The Red Devils got 17 points from Jaxson Halttunen, 12 from Captain Claphanloo and 11 from Keith Johnson Jr.
Neah Bay (1-7) next plays at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Chimacum.
