PREP BOWLING: Quartet represents Olympic Peninsula at state tournament

TUKWILA — Four Port Angeles and Sequim bowlers finished in the top 40 at the 1A/2A state championship held this weekend at Bowlero Lanes.

The first-year Port Angeles Roughriders team concluded with Abby Robinson finishing 19th in the state. Robinson started hot with a 173 and bowled a high game of 193. She ended up with a 162 average over six games.

Robinson’s teammate Paige Pangaro also started well with a 171, her high score of the day. She finished with a six-game average of 136 and finished 35th.

Right behind Pangaro was Sequim’s Nikoline Updike, who came in 37th with an average of 133. Her high game was 165. Sequim’s Morgan Kayser also averaged 133 and came in 38th. Her high game was 150.

There were 68 individuals at the state championships. The state champion was Piper Chalmers of WF West with an average of 201. WF West also won the state championship as a team.

All four bowlers return to their teams next season.

“We learned a lot during the season and had a successful first year. The postseason was a bonus and such a great experience for the girls,” said Port Angeles coach Rebecca Gundersen.
