PREP BASKETBALL: Van Lith, Mullins named state players of the year by The Associated Press

Port Angeles’ Millie Long earns Class 2A honorable mention

The Associated Press

SEATTLE — Record-setting guard Hailey Van Lith of Cashmere and Mount Si sharpshooter Jade Mullins have been voted The Associated Press Washington state high school basketball players of the year.

Van Lith was a unanimous selection on the girls side in voting of sports writers and editors from around the state. Bound for Louisville next season as one of the most decorated basketball players in state history, Van Lith capped her prep career averaging 34 points and 10 rebounds per game for Cashmere.

Mullins led Mount Si to the Class 4A state title and was named MVP of the state tournament. Mullins averaged nearly 20 points per game and was also named the Kingco player of the year.

Both Mullins and Van Lith were named the players of the year in their respective classifications as well.

Port Angeles’ Millie Long received honorable mention honors in the Class 2A girls basketball division. She was named All-Peninsula MVP by area coaches and the sports staff of the Peninsula Daily News earlier this week.

The other players of the year on the boys side are highlight by Odessa senior Ryan Moffett (Class 1B), who became the state all-time leading scorer this season. Other players of the year included: Garfield’s Tari Eason (Class 3A); Clarkston’s Tru Allen (Class 2A); King’s Tyler Lindhart (Class 1A); Life Christian’s Omari Maulana (Class 2B).

On the girls side, Woodinville’s Mia Hughes was voted Class 4A player of the year. Other honorees included: Meghan Fiso of Garfield (Class 3A); Keylie Hershey of Lynden (Class 2A); Maisie Burnham of Liberty (Class 2B) and Korin Baker of Curlew (Class 1B).
