FORKS — Everyone was involved in the action as the Forks boys basketball team dispatched South Bend 84-30 in a Class 2B Pacific League contest Wednesday.
The Spartans starters built the big lead as Trey Baysinger posted 18 of his 27 points in the first quarter on the way to a 60-20 halftime lead. Baysinger is averaging 30 points per game for Forks (2-0).
“They didn’t have any answer for him,” Spartans coach Rick Gooding said.
Raymond Davis notched 12 points for Forks.
“That was probably his best high school game, overall,” Gooding said.
Tony Flores added six points and was “a terror on defense,” according to Gooding.
Riley Pursley stepped into the starting lineup, scoring 10 to reach double figures for the second-straight game.
“He did some great things defensively,” Gooding said.
Ashton Doyle came off the bench to score six points in his first varsity minutes.
“It’s cool when the younger kids get in there and get some extended playing time,” Gooding said.
Senior Kasson Steffen scored his first varsity points for the Spartans.
Gooding also said injuries relating to a previously torn ACL in his knee have ended the career of Forks senior Skyler Steffen.
“He’s still a part of the team, but doctors have told him it wouldn’t be a good idea to continue playing basketball,” Gooding said.
Forks visits Ilwaco tonight.
