SEQUIM — Sequim was reminded North Kitsap is at its best when the Vikings are running and gunning in transition in an 82-60 boys basketball loss at home on Monday.
“Their transition offense, they were really hard to stop in the open court,” coach Craig Brooks said.
“Their half-court defense bothered us quite a bit and made it hard for us to run what we wanted to run.”
Brooks said North Kitsap point guard Cade Orness and shooting guard Harry Davies made life tough for the Wolves.
“Harry Davies and Cade are just really good players out there, and if you focus too much on them, then some of their other guys also are capable of having good games,” Brooks said.
Brooks added there were some highlights for his Wolves.
“Isaiah Moore looked really good for us,” Brooks said. “He’s such a competitor, he was looking forward to this one.”
“And our point guard, Zach Thompson, had six assists with one turnover, and that’s a great ratio, especially against a team that pressures the ball as much as North Kitsap does.
Six-foot-3 forward Charlie Grider also played well despite some foul trouble.
“Charlie is continuing to improve and get his timing down. He’s becoming a pretty big shot blocker for us,” Brooks said.
Sequim (1-3, 2-4) hosts W.F. West (Chehalis) at home on Tuesday.

Girls Basketball Sequim 53, North Kitsap 43
POULSBO — The Wolves overcame a spirited performance from the Vikings to stay unbeaten on the season.
“The girls worked hard to get this win tonight,” coach Joclin Julmist said.
Julmist said guards Hannah Bates and Taryn Johnson sparked Sequim.
“Hannah was amazing tonight. She made some big baskets,” Julmist said.
Bates sank 4 of 8 from beyond the 3-point line to hit for 13 points along with seven assists and five steals.
“Taryn had her best game of the season tonight. She was everywhere, she rebounded, played great defense and made some timely baskets,” Julmist said.
Johnson sank two 3s and scored nine points with seven rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.
Jolene Vaara posted 17 points to pace Sequim, and Jelissa Julmist added 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists inside.
“Jolene was steady leading us in scoring,” Julmist said. “Jelissa did a great job passing the ball and rebounding the ball. Sammie [Bacon] came in and gave us a spark, and Bobbi [Mixon] showed up in the second half and played great defense.”
Sequim (4-0, 7-0) is off until a Jan. 3 visit to Kingston.
