POULSBO — The Sequim girls basketball team upset North Kitsap 34-31 to move into sole possession of second place in the Olympic League and set up a one-versus-two matchup with rival Port Angeles on Friday.
The Wolves had only 18 points through three quarters before exploding for 16 fourth-quarter points to win Tuesday’s game.
Elise Beuke led Sequim with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Melanie Guan had a nice all-around game with six points, five steals and four rebounds.
Alexas Besand and Caitlin Stofferahn added six points each.
Loss drops North Kitsap, considered one the league favorites this season, into a third-place tie with Kingston and Olympic.
The Vikings, who were without leading scorer Kristin Brown, were led by Rebekah Baugh’s 17 points.
Sequim (5-1 Olympic League, 5-5 overall) and Port Angeles (6-0, 8-2) meet Friday for the first time this season in the opening round of a girls and boys doubleheader at 5:15 p.m.
The boys tip off at 7 p.m.

BREMERTON — Jewel Johnson scored 19 points to lead the Redskins to an Olympic League road win over the Knights.
Johnson matched Bremerton’s Sawyer Kluge for game-high scoring honors, nailing five 3-pointers in Tuesday’s game.
The win moves Port Townsend ahead of the Knights in the league standings into sixth place.
To qualify for the 1A postseason, the Redskins must finish at least tied for seventh.
Trish Reeves and Jayde Richardson each scored eight points apiece for Port Townsend.

MONTESANO — The Spartans overcame a slow start before being undone by a fourth quarter in which they didn’t make a field goal.
After scoring only five first-quarter points, Forks trailed 31-20 at halftime.
The Spartans fought their way back into the game with a solid third quarter, after which they trailed 35-33.
But in the last period, Forks only managed a pair of free throws.
“We just need to find that energy we had in the third quarter at the start of the game,” Spartans coach Rick Gooding said after Tuesday’s game.
“The last three league games we just buried ourselves right off the get [with a bad first quarter].”
Colton Raben led Forks with 15 points. Leo Gonzales chipped in eight and Reis Lawson had six.
“We had a hard time getting the ballin the basket,” Gooding said.
“We actually got a lot of the shots we wanted, we just couldn’t get them to fall.”
The Spartans (1-5 Evergreen 1A, 3-8 overall) play at Tenino on Friday.
Montesano’s Kenny Roy scored a game-high 17 points, including shooting 7 for 8 at the free-throw line.
