BREMERTON — The Sequim girls basketball team didn’t play its best game, according to coach Joclin Julmist. But they got great games from Hannah Bates and Jelissa Julmist and played well enough to remain unbeaten in a 70-43 win over Bremerton on Saturday.
“We didn’t play a good game tonight. We made to many mistakes [and] we committed too many unforced turnovers. The girls need to be patient when they have the ball. Our shot was off tonight. We missed a lot of open shots which kept the game close,” coach Julmist said.
Bates hit five 3-pointers, shooting 5-for-10 from beyond the arc, and led the Wolves with 22 points. She also nearly had a triple-double with nine steals and nine assists. Jelissa Julmist had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. She added seven steals.
Jolene Vaara had 12 points, four boards, two steals and two blocks.
“She did everything for us tonight. She played great help side defense and individual defense and shot the ball when she was open,” coach Julmist said.
Bobbi Mixon added 11 points.
“[She] found her stroke tonight … she is starting to do what’s expected of her,” Julmist said.
Sequim (4-0) hosts 3A Central Kitsap (2-2) at 7 p.m. today.

Boys basketball
Crescent 50, Lake Quinault 31
AMANDA PARK — The Crescent boys basketball team got off to a slow start, entering halftime against Lake Quinault tied 17-17.
Then the Loggers erupted for 25 points in the third quarter and won going away 50-31. They got a huge game from Weston Hart, who scored 34 points.
“My guys came out of the break fired up and snuffed out any sort of offense Quinault tried to run. Our defense fueled our offense and we broke the game open,” said coach Chris Ferrier.
“Weston Hart was tremendous. He played in rhythm and finished around the rim,” Ferrier said. “Hayden Ferrel also played a fantastic game. He must have had five to six assists just to [Hart] alone. Conner Bauers and Dom Sprague played very well defensively, getting pressure on their ball handlers and shooters.”
Crescent (2-2) next plays at 7:15 p.m. today at home against Crosspoint.
