SEQUIM — The Sequim girls basketball team got off to a dominating 24-2 lead and remained tied for first among the 2A teams in the Olympic League with a 51-41 home victory over a Kingston team that came into the game with an 8-2 record.
Kingston did nearly make a game of it with an 18-6 fourth quarter, but the Wolves had a huge cushion to play with and still won by double digits.
“We have to work on finishing games and to play as a unit,” coach Joclin Julmist said. “Everyone got a chance to play tonight. It is always fun to get everyone in the game.”
With the win, the Wolves remain tied with the Roughriders at 4-1 for first place in the Olympic League among the 2A schools. Bainbridge is leading the league at 5-0.
Gracie Chartraw led the Wolves with 18 points, seven steals and five rebounds, while Jolene Vaara had another solid double-double game with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Dani Herman contributed 13 rebounds and eight points. “We need her to continue to work and dominate the inside,” Julmist said.
Bobbi Mixon had five points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Sequim (4-1, 6-2) next plays at Olympic (2-3, 5-6) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The Sequim boys also beat Kingston 58-50 on the road Friday night.

Port Angeles 46, North Kitsap 43, OT
POULSBO — Port Angeles allowed a game-long lead to melt away in the fourth quarter against North Kitsap before rallying to force overtime with some clutch shots late, eventually triumphing 46-43 in overtime in a girls basketball contest Friday night.
The Roughriders led 28-15 at halftime after a hot-shooting second quarter (50 percent on field goals), including 10 of Lindsay Smith’s game-high 20 points and all five of freshman Morgan Politika’s points off the bench.
“Our nine-point lead going into the fourth quarter slipped away due to turnovers and missed shots, along with the Vikings scoring on five of their first six possessions to tie the game at 37-37 midway through the final quarter,” coach Michael Poindexter said.
“The second half of the fourth quarter saw little scoring, and NK had a 42-39 lead when Izzy Felton was fouled on a three-point attempt with seven seconds left in the game. She made the first free throw but missed the next two; however, Lexie Smith grabbed the offensive rebound and was fouled as she put the ball back up. With four seconds left, Lexie hit both free throws to tie the game at 42-42. North Kitsap’s half-court attempt fell short at the buzzer.”
Inside shots by Paige Mason and Lindsay Smith put Port Angeles up four in overtime.
North Kitsap went to the free-throw line six times in the bonus period, but they made just one of the six free throws. After two Rider missed free throws late in overtime, North Kitsap had one more possession and missed a 30-foot shot to end the game.
“The Vikings did a good job of patiently attacking our zone defenses, but overall, we were pleased with our defensive effort and adjustment to North Kitsap’s game plan,” Poindexter said.
“As for our offense, we had a bit of a regression in terms of our inside scoring, settling too often for low-percentage takes inside. However, we made up for that somewhat with our best outside shooting effort of the season, especially by Lindsay Smith, who was 4-7 on her 3-point shots.”
Lindsay Smith also had five rebounds and four steals to go with her 20 points.
Mason had six points and nine rebounds and Felton six points, four assists and four steals.
Port Angeles (4-1, 6-6) hosts Kingston on Tuesday.

PORT TOWNSEND — The East Jefferson girls basketball team split a pair of Nisqually League games last week, pulling past Charles Wright with a second-half burst in a 57-33 win and playing close against a tough Bellevue Christian squad for a half before the Vikings broke the contest open in a 62-24 loss Friday night.
“Against Charles Wright we had a super slow start, but then dialed it in during the second half,” coach Lorraine Rimson said. “We pressed and scored about 10 points in, I think, a minute. Then we cruised to the victory.”
Penina Vailolo led the Rivals with 19 points, eight rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Dylin Shockley added 10 points, while Abbie Liske added six points, three blocks and three rebounds.
The story was reversed against Bellevue Christian, rated No. 6 in the Class 1A RPI.
“BC was undefeated in league last year, and they are vastly improved,” Rimson said. “Nonetheless, we held our own in the first half and it was 24-16 at halftime. But we got into foul trouble, and we don’t have a deep bench. They pulled away and the second half was as brutal as the first half was great.
“The girls know who they are, and this won’t undermine them. They are really excited to take on Vashon next week — a team we need to beat to stay on track to achieve our goals.”
East Jefferson (4-2, 4-6) visits Vashon on Tuesday.
Crescent 49, Clallam Bay 19
CLALLAM BAY — Playing without a scoreboard or a shot clock, the Crescent girls basketball team overcame these obstacles to win its eighth game in a row, 49-19 over Clallam Bay.
The power was out through most of Clallam Bay. The school was able to light the gym using a generator, but did not have enough power for the scoreboard.
“It was really weird,” said Crescent coach Brian Shimko. He and boys coach Chris Ferrier gave a lot of credit to the Clallam Bay school officials for making it possible to play the games with limited power.
“The Clallam Bay staff did a great job of using what they had on hand to make the games go off really smooth,” Ferrier said.
Ciara Cargo-Acosta led the Loggers, hitting four 3-pointers for 14 points. “She did an amazing job on defense,” Shimko said, as Cargo-Acosta added five blocks and six steals to her stats.
Naomii Sprague scored 13 points to go with eight steals. Audrey Gales had eight points and four blocks.
The Loggers (8-3) next play the Port Angeles JV/C team Wednesday.
Clallam Bay (3-5) beat Lake Quinault 39-7 on Saturday and plays the Port Angeles C team today.

NEAH BAY — The Neah Bay girls basketball team got off to a 28-2 start in the first quarter and had nine girls score in a 65-23 win over La Conner on Saturday.
With the win, the No. 1-ranked Red Devils improved to 8-2. Their only two losses are to the No. 1- and No. 2-ranked 2B schools in the state.
Leading Neah Bay in scoring was Ryanna Moss with 15. Angel Halttunen scored 11, while Wiiinuk Martin scored eight and Amber Swan and Ezrah Ray each scored seven.
Neah Bay will next host Chief Leschi (5-4) at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
