PUYALLUP — With some players out due to a lack of practices, the Redhawks improved as the game went on in a nonleague loss to the Cougars.

“We had a short bench because of the attendance requirements. We did practice every day we were allowed in the first two weeks, but we did have some girls out because of prior family commitments,” head coach Lorraine Rimson said.

With some players in new positions, Port Townsend trailed 30-8 at halftime.

“We got off to a slow start and had a lot of adjustments to make,” Rimson said.

“The second half was much better for us. We were extremely pleased with the effort of all our players throughout the whole game but especially in the second half. We got some glimpses of what we are hoping to see going forward. I think the girls could sense that as things come together we have the potential to do some really good things.”

Rimson praised freshman Maddy Harris for her play filling in at the small forward position.

“It was good for her to get out there and realize that she can play at this level even in an unfamiliar spot on the floor,” Rimson said.

Port Townsend (0-1) visits Crosspoint tonight.
