SEQUIM — Sequim got great balance and built up a huge lead before Port Townsend rallied in the fourth quarter to make it interesting in a 67-55 boys basketball win over the Redhawks.
The Wolves were up 60-32 at the end of three quarters, but Port Townsend came through with a 23-7 fourth quarter to cut into that lead.
Sequim had five players with at least eight points. Freshman Isaiah Moore led the team with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while shooting 8 for 10 from the field. Meanwhile, Hayden Eaton had 14 points and 13 rebounds, Dallin Despain had 13 points, six boards and six assists and Riley Chen had 12 points.
For the Redhawks, Noa Montoya hit four 3-pointers and led the team with 22 points.
Port Townsend coach Tom Webster said the Redhawks are showing they can shoot well from outside. Port Townsend had eight 3-pointers against Sequim and nine 3-pointers this weekend in a game against South Whidbey.
“But, we only had 10 2-pointers,” Webster said of Monday night’s loss.
“They’re [Sequim] pretty talented and well-coached and we weren’t shooting particularly well. In the second half, we shot better,” Webster said. “I’m encouraged by it.”
Sequim (3-1) plays Kingston (0-2) at 7 p.m. today in the Wolves’ Olympic League 2A Division opener.
Port Townsend (0-3) plays at Chimacum (0-3) at 7:30 p.m. today in the Redhawks’ Olympic League 1A Division opener.

Girls Basketball Sequim 66, Port Townsend 24
PORT TOWNSEND — After a slow start, the Wolves scored 40 points in the second half and had three players in double figures in a 66-24 win over Port Townsend.
“[Port Townsend] came out strong and we had a tough time scoring in the first quarter even though we had plenty of shot opportunities. We made some adjustments in the second half and did a great job passing and pushing the ball up the court,” said Sequim coach Linsay Rapelje.
“I am super proud of our team. We never panicked,” said Port Townsend coach Lorraine Rimson. “Though it was a big difference, they never had an obvious run against us. We are learning how to compete. The girls played very hard. [We] played much better than we did against South Whidbey [last Friday] — a game we should have won.”
Hannah Bates led the Wolves with 14 points, hitting four straight 3-pointers in a 24-point fourth quarter for the Wolves. Kalli Wiker scored 13 and Hope Glasser 12. Jayla Julmist had her lowest scoring output of the year with five points, but she had a great all-around game with 12 rebounds, six steals and four blocks. Glasser had 10 rebounds.
Port Townsend was led by Gina Brown and Mackenzie Lake who both scored nine points for the Redhawks.
Sequim (3-1) will play Kingston (0-2) at home at 7 p.m. today in both teams’ Olympic League 2A Division opener.
Port Townsend (1-3) will play at Chimacum (1-1) at 5:45 p.m. today in both teams’ Olympic League 1A Division opener.
