CHIMACUM — It was a tale of two halves in Port Angeles’ 83-58 boys basketball victory against Chimacum.
“The game was 31-30 [Port Angeles] at the half, and we came out and shot the lights out in the third [quarter],” Roughriders coach Kasey Ulin said of Thursday’s game.
With 32 points in the free-flowing third quarter, Port Angeles eclipsed its first-half point total.
“We shot 5 of 6 on [two-point shots] and went 6 of 6 on 3s, along with 6 of 6 from the [free-throw] line,” Ulin said.
“Our defensive focus remained and we started playing Roughrider basketball which led to some transition opportunities.
“We made a couple adjustments at half time, but the boys came out and played extremely well.”
Lambros Rogers and Grayson Peet each nearly compiled triple-doubles for Port Angeles.
Rogers put up 19 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, while Peet notched 16 points with nine assists and eight steals.
“Lambros Rogers and Grayson Peet were phenomenal,” Ulin said.
Noah McGoff and Luke Angevine added 13 points apiece.
Janson Pederson and Carson Shamp chipped in eight apiece for the Riders.
“I love seeing balanced scoring, that is one of our major strengths offensively,” Ulin said.
“We did a great job of hitting the open player, moving the ball and making smart decisions with the basketball, and that led to a lot of open shots.”
Port Angeles (2-1) also limited its turnovers, committing 11, and hit 21 of 25 free throws.
The Riders begin Olympic League 2A play at Olympic (2-2) on Monday.
The Cowboys (0-4) were led by 12 points from Matt Koenig and 11 apiece from James Porter and Sam Golden.
Chimacum visits Bremerton (1-0, 1-3) on Monday.

ELMA — An unscheduled day off may have worked wonders for the Spartans.
“I was so nervous because the power went out in Forks [on Thursday] all day, so we didn’t have practice,” Gooding said after Friday’s game.
“It probably worked out for the best. They get away from me for a day and they played the best they have played all year.”
Forks jumped out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter and cruised to an Evergreen League road victory.
“We came out with so much energy and our kids responded to everything we asked them to do as far as blocking out and help-side defense in that first quarter,” Gooding said.
“We were right on point.”
Marky Adams led Forks with 22 points, including two slam dunks.
“He had a huge game — just consistent. Eight points in the first quarter, six in the second, six in the third and two in the fourth — but we were sitting him with a big lead,” Gooding said.
“He’s been so consistent, it’s a testament to the work he’s put in.
“He had two big two- handed dunks, one of them off a great lead pass from [Jeffrey] Schumack.”
Adams battled down low all night with fellow 6-foot-8 post Kolton Emerson.
“It was awesome to see Marky go against a kid his size,” Gooding said.
“He did well. He sealed him a couple of times, had a great couple of drop steps.
“Anytime as a coach when you see a big go against a big and have your guy play so well and do footwork stuff, it’s a good feeling.”
Parker Browning added 20 points for the Spartans (2-0, 2-1).
“I can’t say enough about all our guys,” Gooding said.
“Carlos Tejano didn’t take a shot but played great defense.
“[Austin] Pegram took a charge against a kid who weighed 100 pounds more than him.”
Forks is back at home Monday against Aberdeen, the first of three straight home contests.
The Spartans also face Neah Bay on Thursday and league foe Tenino on Friday.
