PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles girls basketball team denied Olympic opportunities with numerous steals and created more chances for themselves offensively with a strong offensive rebounding effort in a 69-15 blowout of the Trojans.
Port Angeles had 26 offensive rebounds to just two for Olympic.
“Our field shooting percentage was not great [37 percent], but our offensive rebounding efforts allowed us a lot of second-chance points,” coach Michael Poindexter said. “In addition to the offensive rebounding, our strengths for the game were steals, both in full-court and half-court defense and outstanding passing.
“Our 25 third-quarter points were the result of 11 of 17 shooting [65 percent].”
Bailee Larson picked the pockets of Olympic to the tune of 10 steals. She added 10 points and eight assists, just two shy of a triple-double.
Eve Burke led the team in points, 22, and rebounds, 11.
Port Angeles (3-0, 3-2) hosts Bainbridge (1-2, 2-3) at 7 p.m. today.

ILWACO — The Spartans’ contest with the Fishermen was postponed due to inclement weather along U.S. Highway 101.
“Highway 101 from Queets to Aberdeen had about four to six inches of snow yesterday and the roads were compact snow and ice,” Forks coach David Hurn said.
The Spartans visit Raymond tonight.
Boys Basketball North Kitsap 87, Sequim 40
POULSBO — One of the reasons the Vikings are far and away the No. 1 team in Class 2A is the team’s abundance of skilled scorers. North Kitsap’s Aiden Olmstead went for 26 points while Seattle Pacific-commit Jonas La Tour added 20 in a win over the Wolves on Tuesday.
“North Kitsap is really good,” coach Greg Glasser said of a Vikings squad that lost just one player to graduation and boast two Division II basketball commits and a Washington State baseball recruit in Colton Bower.
Isaiah Moore had 13 for the Wolves, while Zack Thompson added 11 and Keenan Green nine.
Sequim (0-4, 1-5) hosts North Mason at 7 p.m. today.

BREMERTON — The Trojans are dealing with COVID issues and the two schools decided to postpone the contest until Jan. 8.
The Roughriders will play against top-tier talent in the Curtis Shootout beginning tonight against Class 4A Jackson. Some other schools involved in the event include host Curtis (4A), Mount Spokane (3A), Timberline (3A) and North Kitsap.

In other games Wednesday, the Neah Bay boys beat Concordia Christian 65-48, while the East Jefferson boys lost to Bellevue Christian 45-28 and the East Jefferson girls lost to Bellevue Christian 52-15.
