PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles took the bite out of the North Mason Bulldogs offensively, holding North Mason to single-digit scoring in every quarter in a 61-26 Olympic League 2A Division win Friday.
“We had a goal going into the game to play lots of girls (13 played, 10 scored) and to continue to improve our full-court pressure,” Roughriders head coach Michael Poindexter said. [Friday’s] game gave every player good game experience with the press.”
Poindexter said 13 Port Angeles players saw the floor and 10 scored.
“Our movement and passing against North Mason’s zone could have been sharper, but we were pleased with the defensive and rebounding effort throughout the game,” Poindexter said.
“We struggled to score from the outside [26 percent from 3-point range] but scored well inside all night [46 percent on 2-point shots].”
Jaida Wood led a balanced group of Riders’ scorers with 12 points. Eve Burke added 11 and Mikkiah Brady contributed nine.
Port Angeles (3-0, 5-2) will play in the Cloud 9 Christmas Classic in Lynden on Friday and Saturday.
The Riders will face two Class 3A teams that are off to good starts in Ferndale (6-0) on Friday at 4:45 p.m. and Seattle Prep (4-2) on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. Both games are at Lynden Christian High School.

NEAH BAY — The Red Devils put up 27 first-quarter points and never looked back in a nonleague blowout of the Chitwins.
Allie Greene led Neah Bay with 16 points, hitting 4 of 8 from beyond the 3-point arc.
The Red Devils shot well as a team from deep, connecting on 11 of 26 3-point shots.
Ruth Moss had 15 points, cashing in on 4 of 5 shots from deep, to go along with six steals.
Laila Greene had 11 points, four assists and four steals for Neah Bay (4-2).
The Red Devils played at Tulalip Heritage late Saturday and will compete in Port Townsend’s holiday tournament, The Crush in the Slush next Friday and Saturday.
Neah Bay will face Class 2A Burlington-Edison on Friday at 3:25 p.m. and Class 2A Cedarcrest on Saturday at 1:45 p.m.

SHELTON — The Forks girls got off to a slow start against Shelton on Saturday, falling 47-31 on the road.
The Spartans were behind 27-12 after the first half.
Forks played better in the second half, but it was too big of a dificit to overcome, said coach David Hurn.
“When you dig yourself in a hole like that on the road in that environment, it’s a little hard to dig out of,” Hurn said.
Hurn said the Spartans played much better defensively and offensively in the second half, in which they were only outscored 20-19.
Kadie Wood led Forks with 16 points.
Forks (0-0, 3-4) also lost 60-20 Friday to Rainier. The Spartans next play at home at 1 p.m. Saturday against King’s Way Christian (2-4).

Boys Basketball Port Angeles 71, North Mason 38
BELFAIR — No signs of letdown for the Roughriders in an Olympic League win over the Bulldogs on Friday, two days after knocking off top-ranked North Kitsap.
“I thought our effort was really good,” Port Angeles coach Kasey Ulin said. “There was a little emotional physical energy that was lost from the North Kitsap game but we were not deflated by any means.”
Damen Ringgold had a solid nice down low with 17 points and 16 rebounds.
“He was extremely active and aggressive on the glass,” Ulin said. “He and Anton [Kathol] are playing extremely well together.”
Kathol had 14 points for the Riders.
“Ten guys scored, five guys had eight or more points and we outrebounded them 43-29,” Ulin said. “We had 14 guys play.
“In a game where we shot it really poorly, 3 of 20 from 3-point line, and had some turnovers in transition and defensive breakdowns, to win by 32 points is a good sign when we are not exactly thrilled by a 32-point result.”
Ulin said Xander Maestas and Stuart Methner provided energy off the bench.
“Xander and Stuart were huge sparks off the bench,” Ulin said. “We only hit three 3s and Xander had two and Stu had the other. And they were active defensively.”
Ulin also had praise for guards Gary Johnson and Dru Clark.
“Dru didn’t score last night but he was unbelievable defensively and getting us in sets on offense,” Ulin said. “He had seven assists. And coming off a big game against NK, Gary didn’t force anything and played so under control.
Port Angeles (3-0, 4-1) hosted Lakewood late Saturday.
The Riders will play in the SunDome Shootout at the Yakima SunDome next Friday and Saturday.
Port Angeles will face potential district playoff foe White River at 9 p.m. Friday and turn around and play Class 1A Cashmere at 9 a.m. Saturday.

LACEY — The Spartans built up a 16-point second-half lead and held on at the end of the game with some clutch free throws to beat Toledo 62-58.
Logan Olson hit five 3-pointers and led the Spartans with 23 points in the game at St. Martin’s University, where Forks alum Marky Adams plays basketball.
Tony Hernandez-Flores hit some clutch free throws, going 7 for 9 from the free-throw line and hitting two clutch shots from the charity stripe late in the fourth quarter. Hernandez-Flores ended up with 9 points.
Coach Rich Gooding said Toledo made a huge run late to make the Spartans sweat.
“That’s why we schedule tough games like this. So we’re ready for anything,” he said.
“Logan shot the ball really well and Steffan Skyler had a good game rebounding and scoring,” Gooding said. Skyer ended up with nine points.
Trey Baysinger finished with 11 points. Forks won shorthanded as Cartle Windle and Tony Farias were traveling during the holidays.
Forks (5-2) will play in the North Mason Holiday Invite in Belfair on Friday and Saturday.
The Spartans will face host North Mason on Friday at 7 p.m. and face Klahowya at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.
Tumwater 72, Forks 40
FORKS — The Spartans kept it close with the Thunderbirds for much of the first half before a rough spell occurred just before the break.
“It was about a 10-point game until about two minutes left in the first half,” Gooding said. “They got steals on five out of six possessions and the game turned into a layoup line and the deficit went from 10 to 20.”
Forks had trouble inside against Tumwater’s size.
“We tried some different looks but we were outsized,” Gooding said. “They had a 6-foot-7 guy and his backup was 6-6 and they were on the glass all night.”
