PREP BASKETBALL: Regional matchups solidified for four area teams

The North Olympic Peninsula has four basketball teams headed to this weekend’s regional tournament, and all four were in action Monday.

The Port Angeles girls (17-5) claimed the West Central District’s No. 3 seed at regionals by beating the Olympic Trojans on Monday for this third time this season, 43-33.

At regionals, the Roughriders will play seventh-ranked Cedarcrest (21-3) on Friday at Lynden High School at 6 p.m.

In the boys 2A West Central District championship game, eighth-ranked Sequim (20-4) lost to fourth-ranked Clover Park 60-45 at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

As the district’s No.2 seed, the Wolves will play Saturday at 4 p.m. at Kent-Meridian High School against the winner of Tuesday’s faceoff between Hockinson (13-10) and Washougal (16-7).

The second-ranked Neah Bay boys lost just their second game of the season in the 1B Tri-District title game, falling 65-64 to Cedar Park Christian (Mountlake Terrace).

The Red Devils (16-2) will travel to Lynnwood High School in Bothell for regionals, where they will face Waterville (17-6) on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The No. 3 Neah Bay girls (14-3) lost to Mount Vernon Christian 46-38, and will take the 1B Tri-District’s fourth seed to regionals.

The Red Devils now must travel to Eastmont High School in Wenatchee to play Pateros (16-3) on Friday at 8 p.m.
