PREP BASKETBALL: Port Townsend to host annual ‘Crush in the Slush’

PORT ANGELES — Boys and girls teams from as far away as Bellingham and Mattawa will converge on Port Townsend this week for the annual Crush in the Slush Holiday Basketball Tournament.

A total of 14 boys and girls games will be played from 9 a.m. today to 9 p.m. Friday.

Teams from Port Townsend, Neah Bay, Friday Harbor, La Conner, Nooksack Valley, Wahluke, Bellingham and Sehome will participate in the tournament.

The Port Townsend boys will play Friday Harbor and defending state 1B champion Neah Bay, while the Port Townsend girls will play Wahluke (from Mattawa) and Sehome.

The other local school in the tournament, Neah Bay, will also play four games. The boys will play Nooksack Valley and Port Townsend while the girls will play Nooksack Valley and Bellingham.

The Port Townsend boys come into the tournament with a 4-2 record, including 2-0 in the Olympic League 1A Division. The Port Townsend girls have an identical 4-2 record, 2-0 in Olympic League 1A Division.

The Neah Bay boys, winners of the 2016 1B state championship, have gotten off to a slow start so far this season, going 1-3. However, one loss was in overtime and another was to a 1A opponent, Forks.

Meanwhile, the Neah Bay girls come into the tournament 4-0.

9 a.m.: Port Townsend girls vs. Wahluke

10:45 a.m.: Neah Bay boys vs. Nooksack Valley

12:30 p.m.: Neah Bay girls vs. Nooksack Valley

2:15 p.m.: La Conner girls vs. Bellingham

4 p.m.: La Conner boys vs. Bellingham

5:45 p.m.: Friday Harbor girls vs. Sehome

7:30 p.m.: Friday Harbor boys vs. Port Townsend

Friday

9 a.m.: Wahluke girls vs. Friday Harbor

10:45 a.m.: Bellingham boys vs. Friday Harbor

12:30 p.m.: La Conner girls vs. Nooksack Valley

2:15 p.m.: La Conner boys vs. Nooksack Valley

4 p.m.: Bellingham girls vs. Neah Bay

5:45 p.m.: Sehome girls vs. Port Townsend

7:30 p.m.: Port Townsend boys vs. Neah Bay
