PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles dominated Port Townsend 63-26 after putting together some of their “smoothest play of the season,” according to coach Michael Poindexter.
After a slow start to the Senior Night game Tuesday, Poindexter singled out the Roughriders play late in the first quarter and the entire second quarter as the difference in this contest.
Port Angeles led 13-6 after one quarter and 35-12 at halftime.
Senior guard Krista Johnson scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the first half for the Riders (15-1, 17-3).
“At times I thought our zone anticipation and execution was excellent,” Poindexter said.
The Riders defense forced 33 Redskins turnovers, while Port Angeles limited their giveaways to 16.
“Kylee Jeffers had a solid game defensively with four steals and three rebounds, to go with four assists on the offensive end,” Poindexter said.
Senior guard Maddy Hinrichs chipped in with 14 points. She also led the Riders in rebounding with five and tied for the team lead in assists with four.
Maddie Boe had six points, three assists and three steals for Port Angeles.
Jayde Richardson led the Redskins with seven points and Jewel Johnson was held to six for Port Townsend.
“We struggled to maintain focus a bit in the second half, and that will be a major goal in practice this week as we prepare for our first district game on Wednesday,” Poindexter said.
Port Angeles will play the winner of Monday’s game between Sequim and the South Puget Sound League/Seamount League No. 4 seed at Wilson High School in Tacoma at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

BREMERTON — Alexas Besand’s 25 points helped Sequim sew up the Olympic League’s fourth seed to the Class 2A West Central District Tournament.
The Wolves (10-6, 10-10) will face the fourth seed from the South Puget Sound League/Seamount League at Curtis High School in University Place at 2:45 p.m. Monday.
Jordan Miller contributed 11 points for Sequim and Elise Beuke finished with six points.

SEATAC — The Cowboys couldn’t overcome a second quarter scoring outburst from senior Aly Kaler and fell on the road to the Warriors.
“They rotated the ball real well and she just got red hot from behind the 3-point line,” Chimacum coach Trevor Huntingford said.
“She’s 6 feet tall and plays wing for them, and we were guarding her well with 5-foot-3 girls, but she was able to shoot over the top.”
Kaler scored 15 of her game-high 19 points in the second quarter, hitting four 3-point shots in the period.
Kiersten Snyder scored nine of her team-high 11 points for Chimacum in the third quarter.
“She had about a four-minute run there in the third quarter where she was aggressive with her drives and got to the basket and finished well,” Huntingford said of Snyder.
“She’s a very good ballhandler for us.”
The Cowboys were able to get some varsity experience for swing players [those who play for both the JV and varsity teams] in the fourth quarter.
Chimacum wraps the season with a visit to Cedar Park Christian on Friday.

CASTLE ROCK — The Spartans’ season came to an end with a close Southwest Washington District Play-in game loss to the Evergreen League’s Knights. “It was a close game, back and forth all the way,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said.
“We were up five with two and a half minutes left and their big kid [Kienan] Walters hit back to back 3-pointers to put them up by one.”
The Spartans had to foul down the stretch to extend the game and hope for missed free throws from King’s Way.
“They made their free throws, we missed some shots [down the stretch], and that was it,” Gooding said.
Forks senior post Leo Gonzalez scored 20 of his game-high 27 points in the second half as the Spartans mounted a comeback after trailing by seven, 23-16, at half.
“Leo got his second foul in the first quarter while we were down 16-11, but we came back and responded well,” Gooding said.
“Our kids did a good job.”
Colton Raben added 14 points for Forks.
