KINGSTON — Port Angeles needed every one of Parker Nickerson’s 42 points to rally past and hold off Kingston 68-60 on the Buccaneers senior night Tuesday.
Down two of their three top players, Nickerson stepped up in a major way.
“No Isaiah [Shamp] and No Ty [Hunter], that’s 36 points and almost 20 rebounds per game, Roughriders head coach Kasey Ulin said.
“Parker’s already impressed us with how much he’s grown this year as a player and a leader, but he was different last night. That confidence he is developing was on full display. He also had eight rebounds and five steals.”
Historically, Ulin said the performance would go in the school record books just behind high-scoring games from Port Angeles legends Bernie Fryer and Jon Madison.
“He did everything,” Ulin said of Nickerson. “He was 10-for-12 from the free-throw line, he had five 3-pointers, he shot well, he drove, he hit pull-ups, tough contested twos, and we needed every point. That was 42 points in a game where we needed every bucket.”
Bryant Hoch added eight points off the bench and Ezra Townsend stepped up with a nine-rebound, five-point performance.
“I’m happy with the grit and toughness we showed in the second half,” Ulin said. “Kingston is better than their record shows. They’ve lost something like seven games between four and seven points, so they just have to learn to close. So to go down on the road without some really key members of our team, it was a tough win.”

SEQUIM — The Wolves sealed third place among the Olympic League Class 2A teams by blowing past the Trojans in the second half.
Charlie Grider got hot after halftime, scoring 14 of his game-high 16 points in the third quarter as Sequim extended its lead to 21 points heading to the final frame.
Zach Thompson had seven of his 10 points in the third quarter to boost the Wolves.
Sequim (7-6, 9-10) hosts rival Port Angeles tonight at 7 p.m.

BELLEVUE — Michael Petta led the way with 19 points as the Rivals pulled out an important overtime victory on the road.
The win provided a half-game of separation between East Jefferson (5-8, 8-9) and Bellevue Christian (5-9, 7-11) for the Nisqually League’s sixth and final Class 1A West Central District tournament berth.
East Jefferson (5-8, 8-9) visits No. 9 Vashon on Friday.

NEAH BAY — Neah Bay’s Buddy Aguirre poured in 14 of his 26 points in the second quarter as the Red Devils ran away from Crescent.
Aguirre shot 12-of-15 from the floor, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out five assists and had four steals.
Jaden Halttunen was almost perfect from the floor for Neah Bay, knocking down 10 of 11 shots for 21 points. He added four steals, two assists and a pair of rebounds.
Julian Carrick added 15 points, a team-high seven steals, five rebounds and four assists for the Red Devils (5-0, 11-5). Neah Bay moved to No. 8 in the Class 1B RPI with the win. The Red Devils visit Chief Kitsap on Friday.
Conner Ferro-May had 14 points to pace the Loggers (2-2, 11-6).
Crescent visits Clallam Bay on Friday.
