PREP BASKETBALL: Neah Bay’s Venske and Chartraw selected as North Olympic League MVPs

PORT ANGELES — Neah Bay dominated the North Olympic League All-League basketball teams, with Red Devils seniors Abraham Venske and Faye Chartraw selected by league coaches as the boys and girls MVPs, respectively.

John Reamer joined Venske on the boys All-League team for Neah Bay, and Ryan Moss and Kenrick Doherty Jr. were given honorable mention.

First-year head coach Stan Claplanhoo was picked as boys Coach of the Year after guiding the Red Devils to a 20-4 record and a second-place finish at the Class 1B state tournament in his first year as head coach.

Clallam Bay’s Kelly Gregory and Samuel Signor also made the first team.

Crescent senior Martin Waldrip was voted Defensive Player of the Year, and was joined by teammate Zach Fletcher on the first team.

The Loggers’ sophomore post Neil Peppard received honorable mention honors.

Girls selections

Neah Bay senior Kaela Tyler was voted the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.

She was joined on the first team by Clallam Bay senior Molly McCoy and sophomore Mariah LaChester, and Crescent seniors Lauren Hartley and Hailey Holgerson.

Kyla Wilson of Clallam Bay and Hailey Greene of Neah Bay received honorable mention.

Red Devils coach Tony McCaulley was voted Coach of the Year after Neah Bay (19-3) placed fifth at state, the second state finish in his two years as head coach.
