NEAH BAY — The state regional-bound Neah Bay Red Devils boys and girls basketball teams earned more accolades when coaches voting for the North Olympic League All-League teams were released earlier this week.
Seniors Kenrick Doherty Jr. (boys) and Tristin Johnson (girls) were recognized as North Olympic League MVPs.
During the regular season Doherty posted per-game averages of 11.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.8 steals and 0.6 blocks.
He hit five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter of the Red Devils’ 73-68 Tri-District Tournament win over Cedar Park Christian of Mountlake Terrace last week.
Johnson put up per-game averages of 13.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.1 assists and 1.1 blocks for the 18-3 Neah Bay girls.
Neah Bay senior Anthony Bitegeko was the choice as boys Defensive MVP.
Bitegeko scored 10.6 points per game along with 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 0.9 blocks and 1.2 assists per game.
Doherty and Bitegeko were joined on the boys first team by Clallam Bay’s Ryan McCoy and Crescent’s Neil Peppard and K.C. Spencer and Chief Kitsap Academy’s Bailey Moss.
Teammate Rweha Munyagi was a second-team selection for the Red Devils (18-3).
Clallam Bay guard Cayton Smith also was voted to the second team.
Bruins coach Kelly Gregory was selected as boys Coach of the Year.
Three Clallam Bay players and one Crescent player joined Johnson on the girls’ first team.
The Bruins’ Molly McCoy, Atokena Abe and Miriam Wonderly were first-team picks, as well as McKenzie Brannan of Crescent.
Brannan was second in the North Olympic League with 116 rebounds and second in steals with 51, according to Loggers’ coach Kelly Serrianne.
“She is a very smart player and always anticipated the opponents’ next move which made her a threat on defense,” Serrianne said. “Offensively she was so strong from the elbow.”
Second-team selections included Neah Bay junior guard Gina McCaulley and freshman forward Cei’J Gagnon, along with Clallam Bay senior guard Mariah LaChester and Crescent sophomore Jasmine O’Neel.
Chief Kitsap Academy’s Randi Purser was voted girls Coach of the Year.
