SEQUIM — A hot-shooting Sequim boys basketball team steadily pulled away from Bremerton to open Olympic League play with a 68-53 victory.
The Wolves (1-0, 2-1) hit on 26 of 48 shot attempts as a team, including 8 of 16 from beyond the 3-point line in Tuesday’s game.
Alex Barry kept his solid start to the season going for Sequim, just missing out on a double-double with 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting and nine rebounds.
Barry also added three blocks, three assists and two steals.
Vance Willis added 17 points, hitting on 3 of 5 3’s for the Wolves, with seven rebounds and four assists.
Jackson Oliver knocked down two triples and scored eight points for Sequim.
Josh McConnaughey protected the paint with three blocks for the Wolves.
All 10 Sequim players that played scored, grabbed a rebound and nine of the ten had at least one assist.
Sequim hosts Class 4A Mount Tahoma (0-2) today at 7 p.m.

VASHON — Sophomore post Nizhoni Wheeler picked up a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Roughriders to a nonleague win on Vashon Island.
Wheeler shot 7 of 11 from the floor and 4 of 7 from the free throw line in Tuesday’s game.
She scored six from put backs after offensive rebounds.
Port Angeles coach Michael Poindexter praised the performances of Wheeler and junior Hayley Baxley.
“Nizhoni Wheeler and Hayley Baxley each had her best game of the year,” Poindexter said.
Baxley scored just one point but totaled eight rebounds and three steals to pace the Riders’ defensive efforts.
“Hayley’s rebounds and steals were valuable, and she and Emily Johnson were effective in our press,” Poindexter said.
Maddie Boe scored five points, grabbed nine rebounds and had five assists and three steals for Port Angeles.
The Riders won the rebounding battle 51-34.
“Neither team shot the ball very well, which lead to the high rebound totals,” Poindexter said.
“PA shot just 30 percent from the field and 38 percent from the free-throw line.”
The Riders (2-2) host Chimacum on Friday.

BREMERTON — A strong second half helped the Wolves break open a halftime tie on the road against the Knights.
The win came in each team’s Olympic League opener.
McKenzie Bentz and Adrienne Haggerty each totaled 12 points and eight rebounds apiece to lead Sequim (1-0, 2-1).
Elise Beuke added six points and six boards and Kylee Williams dished out seven of the Wolves 12 assists and scored three points.
Sequim visits Crosspoint today for a nonleague game.

QUILCENE — The Rangers dropped their first game of the season a nonleague contest with SeaTac League foe the 613’s Tuesday night.
“The Rangers were lacking in the rebounding department tonight,” Quilcene coach Briana Weller said.
“Northwest Yeshiva out-rebounded us two to one. Plain and simple, Yeshiva was scrappy and went after every ball.”
Freshman Katie Love led Quilcene, garnering a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards.
Megan Weller added 14 points and three assists but it wasn’t enough to offset a strong 613’s offensive attack.
“Our defense just wasn’t getting the job done on Yeshiva’s perimeter shooters and we had trouble taking away the baseline,” Weller said.
“We are working on fortifying our defensive sets. This was an extremely physical game which showed us where we are at and where we need to be.”
The Rangers (2-1) visit Oakville on Friday.
