QUILCENE — The Rangers opened their season with a blowout win, thanks to a monster game from team captain Megan Weller.

Weller, a sophomore, scored 30 points, hand four steals and made 8 of 9 free throws.

“It was an ideal game situation that allowed all the girls on the roster a lot of playing time,” Quilcene coach Briana Weller said after Tuesday’s win.

“The team did a good job of seeing the floor and working together as a unit.

“They also utilized their transition offense effectively.”

The young Rangers, who have one junior and no seniors, only turned the ball over 12 times.

Allison Jones added 15 points, and Sammy Rae had eight points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

Jerrica Viloria scored four points and had 6 assists, and Bailey Keiffer finished with two points, five rebounds and two steals.

Quilcene faces a tough 1B Sea-Tac League test at home against Puget Sound Adventist.

FORKS — The Hyaks used a big third quarter to pull away from the Spartans.

The Spartans trailed 29-28 at halftime, but then were outscored by North Beach 20-12 in the third.

“Obviously, the big difference was that third quarter,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said of Tuesday’s game.

“We need to come out of halftime and be more aggressive, have more energy.”

The Spartans stayed relatively close, but were unable to get closer than six points.

Leo Gonzales led Forks with 15 points, followed by Colton Raben who scored nine.

Ish Greene and Ollie Sampson added five apiece, and Reis Lawson and Andrew Armas each had four.

Corey Thornton and Gabe Hernandez shared North Beach scoring honors with 15 points apiece.
